Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And that is why, despite all its flaws I'm glad we have the nct :) I had a car in for a service today and noticed the brake fluid was bright red so I called the owner and they said the brakes were squeaky so they put in some power steering fluid to quieten them down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,865 ✭✭✭fancy pigeon

Ah, so there are more ear cleaning, dog hair infested and goodness knows what other bodily fluid ingrained cars out there.

What a filthy, unsatisfied bastard. I dread to think of the smell :(

    You know the worst part?
J&J switched to making their cotton buds with paper stalks well over a year ago... Yikes!

I once cane across a crash and gave some of the passengers a lift home, no **** had about 20 banana peels on the dashboard at the time. Rough week, sure they thought I was mental.

    Jesus Christ. That is vile

Makes me laugh when people say the NCT is scam, yet cars are presented for a test like that. The brake pad one is particularly scary

Did it pass the test? :D

That is disgusting alright, i would not of got in that car. The pads looked new enough i wonder did they get Stevie Wonder to change them.

I presume it is a Mitsubishi by the shape of it, the clip that holds the pad to the caliper broke at some stage. Looks a budget make which mightn't have helped.

I was looking at thay pad. I thought it was the completely wrong pad for the car as it doesnt seem to have anything to attach it.

Did that car pass? Can an NCT tester refuse to rest a car if it’s so horribly filthy inside that they’d be afraid of catching something?

They can and do, rightly so. To be fair, its on the preparation letter asking that the car is reasonably clean.

I remember a while back someone rang Liveline to complain they wouldn't test their car because it was full of dog hair and another callers car wasn't tested because it smelled of fish (he was a fish seller). Fair enough as I wouldn't like my car tested next if the tester was covered in dog hair and smelled of fish.

They got their moneys worth out of that disc anyway.
Any biker letting their disc get to that state won't last long imho.

How did it manage to stay straight????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,167 ✭✭✭B-D-P--

Them cable ties are way too loose and clean to be real.
And if you manage to change a cv, you should be able to tighten a few bolts.
I think its a fake video to get the page views.

Cable ties wouldn't last more than a short drive,i'd agree with the above.

Yea BS. Top and bottom ball joints have been loosened off. Those cable ties would snap the minute you drop the car on to the ground again. And the disks look new!

I recently acquired a car that had a suspect failed starter. My suspicions heightened when I couldn't bump it into life...

    So I dropped the sump

Suspicions confirmed. I had a droopy conrod :P

Plugs had also seen better days too, as did the aux belt

Oh dear oh deary me! I'm aiming to revive this thing, with a replacement engine naturally. Car is straight otherwise

    Sharp

Thinking the sump would give it away! 4ZZ

    I recognised the plug code!
Those oil pickups aren't a good design, they need to be cut away to allow oil to flow across and flush the debris away.
At least the aux belt is an easy change.

Ahh, c'mon... Knowing meself it'd end up in a breaker's yard anyway.

It still has 3 weeks of test left, but it won't pass due to underbody rust, and not really worth repairing, unless it'd go to someone enthusiastic like you. :)

I don't even bother donedeal it, don't want a hassle with tons of tyre kickers and hundreds of phone calls offering swap for half eaten snickers bar and almost new condom ("used only once!"). facepalm.gif
