Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A medieval cannon ball, more than likely. Are you near a castle or the site of one, by any chance? The one pictured was sold by a "specialist auctioneer" but thankfully, not in Ireland.[Embedded Image Removed]

the one pictured is much bigger than the one i found our one is about 5-6 cm in diameter we are living about 1mile from cullen castle in tramore co.waterford .

Your one could have been for a smaller cannon, or it could have been made for throwing by hand. Could well have come from the castle. It would be very interesting to have it looked at by the professionals - I suspect that it is not Irish granite.

First thing I thought of when I saw the cannonball above was neolithic(and later) grinding stone Doh!:) but that one was a bit too big and yours seems a bit too small.

Is there any side that shows more of a polish? If so it may not be a cannonball. Though I reckon slowburner is bang on the money. Stone shot for a smaller cannon or stone grape shot for a larger one(broadly like a shotgun shell)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
