    If you're using Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, under Multimedia checkmark Play sounds on web pages, click Apply/OK.

Other than that try to check that the machine isn't on mute (yep speaking from experience!).

    Update flash

If that doesn't work or the 44.1 KHz doesn't work: what OS are you using? What browser? Version? What sites?

If you are using Windows 7 (may work on Vista, haven't tried), right click on the volume icon and select "Open Volume Mixer". you should see Internet Explorer here, it may have been muted, if so, just raise the volume for it to the top.
