We do - there is a large chance he is irredeemable / untreatable.
My suggestion is that in such cases we execute and use his organs for people on urgent waiting lists. As per an earlier similar post we can even then provide a small % of what his incarceration would have cost us to his family.

But to lock him up for a few short years (4) only to allow him back out on our streets - that to me is barbaric. This guy is just going to do this again - and we will all be back on here bemoaning how sick he must be and what extra treatment he now needs.

Bleeding hearts do my head in - lets see how you feel if he was to attack some relative of yours.

And what would happen if the chap was wrongfully convicted?

I actually don't know how to respond to this....I am lost for words.

This man needs to be locked up, be that in prison or a mental health facility. He is a danger to women.

Can I, however, ask that those calling for him to be killed/castrated/tortured try to remember we live in a civilised soicety where such actions really have no place. Locking him for life, or until he can be no longer called a threat to women is enough. Anything else is just lowering ourselves to his level tbh.

For example, where is Larry Murphy now? Or look at the amount of Irish scum on the Costa del Sol or in Amsterdam.

Yeah I was just thinking the same thing. Remember seeing the thread about Larry Murphy returning to Ireland from Spain - a few posters came out with such trash, saying the Spanish law enforcement can deal with him/I'm just glad he's out of Ireland etc...

Why are we allowing CONVICTED CRIMINALS into this country!

This guy is a nut job by the sounds of it and should never be allowed walk the streets again.
In the likes of Australia and the States, you're criminal record is looked at before you're allowed in to work. Why doesn't Ireland have any system?

In fairness, we do. Just not for people in the EU. As an EU citizen he unfortunately has the right to live anywhere he chooses within the 27 states. If someone from the US applied for a VISA to live here it would be refused with a history like that.

Normally I think the free movement of people is a great part of the EU, but it should be suspended if you have a conviction like this in your home country.

And this validates his attack and behaviour? They should all be locked up. Permanently. Preferably on a mid-Atlantic island.

    Fu(king animal.

I had to laugh at the reporting of the case describing the sentence of 15 years as being 'severe'. Even if he would serve that, he won't, it's still laughable. He'll be out in a few years and this will happen all over again. It's the same for Larry Murphy, Gerald Barry etc etc. Absolute joke.

People have been saying that the guy has mental issues. Has this been confirmed?
In the past, courts have declared people guilty, but with diminished responsibility due to mental issues. (not the official term, obviously). Surely this would have been assessed during the year+ since he was arrested?

The Mods make me laugh on Boards.
Here we have a bunch of trolls advocating among other things, ritualised torture, internment, summary justice without trial, gang rape, execution, thinly veiled xenophobia and castration for a person who is clearly seriously mentally disturbed .
I understand the trolls - venting your anger and all against this monster and it is AH after all.
However in the real world we are signatories to a Convention on Human Rights that was initiated after the WW2 in an attempt to eliminate these very type of abuses which were doled out by the Nazis to Jews Gays Politicals Gypsies and the mentally ill amongst others. Have the Mods nothing to say to people advocating violent retribution or are they keeping their heads below the parapet?
Makes me laugh cos I got banned from a forum for a month because I had a light hearted jibe at someone. I should have said at the time that I was going to pull his finger nails off and then shoot him in the head the next time I saw him. Mods me hole!

Even if he is mental he is dangerous and should be treated as such. Being mental does not help the victim. This makes me sick. Imagine how she felt after hearing this after the trial. This ****er should not be breathing any more!

Nobody with convictions like that should be allowed in Ireland. Convicted for stealing a mars bar? Sure, we'll give you another chance.. But rape or any other violent crime? Absolutely not. The EU needs to have policy made on this, as I assume it does not have it already.

Living in Ireland should not be a right for any non-Irish citizen. It should be a privilege. Be a lawful, and good natured person and I'm more than happy for you to come here - but if you're violent, you don't deserve to be here.

Never heard a word so true, but unfortunately the E.U. free travel comes with advantages and disadvantages. I would love if anyone coming to Ireland had some sort of background check.

What's the situation atm regarding background checks on immigrants? Are they carried out at all?

For entry visa required nationals, background checks are probably done (though how thorough these are I can't say). Biometrics are at least collected.

For non visa required nationals no checks are done. I've lived in Ireland for just under 12 years now and no checks have taken place.

With regards to EU nationals you're kinda screwed. Not much you can do there without changing one of the fundamentals of EU law.

Right so if your mum was raped and the rapist wanked as she was speaking about her ordeal. You wouldnt want the guards or in fact any man nearby to beat the crap out of the guy? Your alot more calmer than me so:mad:

Exactly. The man clearly has mental problems. The reactions of people on here, saying things like 'he should be castrated!' or 'torture him!' are perfect examples of why the mob should never be allowed to rule. People love to act the vigilante without knowing anything about what they're talking about. I'm not saying that what he did wasn't wrong, it was and it's sick. But that's the thing - the man is clearly sick mentally. He should be treated as such. Since when do we torture or castrate mentally ill people?

Lock him up, certainly, but in the right facility. This is a major problem everywhere. Mentally ill people are repeatedly locked up in jails with other criminals when mentally ill people who commit crimes cannot be considered criminals in the same way as, say, a gangland criminal. A gang banger who shoots a rival does that knowing the consequences and fully understanding what they're doing. I'm not sure that this man is fully aware of what he's doing. Again, I'm not excusing his behaviour or crime, but he needs to be seen for what he is - a very sick individual.

He might have mental health problems, thats true. On the other hand not everyone who has mental health problems goes around raping people, and not all rapists have mental health problems. He could just be a very very twisted person.

Two members of my family have been murdered in cold blood, one of them bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat in front of his two small children in his own home, the other shot dead in broad daylight in the middle of the street. I didn't support the death penalty then, and I don't support it now. So, please, spare me the 'how would you feel' rubbish.

I would much rather live in a society that sought to seek solutions to problems rather than going with the impulsive, revenge act of executing immediately. I don't agree with letting him out, but the death penalty is not a deterrent and I do not believe it is our best option. We should be better than that. Punishing horrific acts with a horrific act makes no sense, and furthermore if it's misused once, the whole practice is brought into disrepute.

The guards don't have the discretion to punish anyone and we shouldn't let our emotions make exceptions to laws.

Keeping him in prison is expensive. If he spends the rest of his life in prison it is, from our perspective, the same as if he is dead (i.e. he will have no impact on society). The death penalty is not a deterrent nor punishment, it is a cost and space efficient way of removing people from our society.

    Definitely happened.

Remember hearing about a horrific rape and murder 20-30 years ago. Gardai apparently had two suspects in for questioning, pretty much open and shut case.
The detectives left the interrogation room but left a window slightly open. The two men spotted it and jumped out only to find a bunch of Gardai waiting outside. Apparently gave them a proper beating because they happened to catch them trying to escape!

well i believe in the case of child killers, paedos, and rapists. Were it is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. that those monsters should be beaten, and jailed for life. life meaning life. nooses should be left in their cells so if they wish they can go to hell where they belong.
