I hope this is the right place to put this thread: I just need an answer to a few questions concerning drugs and clubs.

Well firstly this story concerns my friend who is sitting right beside me now. He got caught rolling a joint with two friends in Crawdaddy's on Tuesday. I was there myself at the time but I didn't see what went down.

Basically he was drunk, and his friend asked him to help roll a joint. They went outside to the smoking area and began to roll. He knows this is a silly idea. Basically a bouncer above him on ground level seen him, and he was brought - with another guy - to the side area.

He had only the little bit of marijauna - enough for the joint - on him. It wasn't even his - the guy it belonged to was not caught. He immediatley gave it up. The bouncers took his name and date of birth from his ID. They done the same thing to the other guy, who's name neither of us know.

The other guy was talking ****e. After he asked are you's going to ring the Gardai to the bouncers, the bouncers said yes. The bouncers also asked where they lived. The other guy had around 80 euro's worth of weed on him. My friend only had enough for a joint on him. The bouncers took the marijauna and told them to leave.

Now, my friend is really annoyed. I totally understand. At Crawdaddy on a Tuesday - C.U.N.T - loads of people are smoking weed and loads are on pills. The bouncers know my friend quite well and he goes there every week.

I know this post is long and elaborate, but he just wants to know if anybody knows what'll happen if he tries to go back to the club? And will the police be called??

I'm also trying to tell him the guards won't be gotton involved but he's just a bit scared.

Was getting thrown out the end of it or just the beginning?

I can't and I don't think anyone really can give you a definite answer but... in my opinion, your man was just trying to scare you. I doubt he will get back into the club again but I'm pretty sure the gardai aren't going to get involved. Anyway, I hope all goes well.

Also, I hope this thread doesn't turn into an argument about whether they should legalise weed.

It's hard to believe that in the 21st century, people still have to worry over **** like this due to ignorance! :D

Does anyone really think that the bouncers gave the weed to the gards? I'm sure they got rid of it some other way....

    Pretty much. :D

When i was a bouncer in clubs our basic policy was once people don't flout things there is not much we can do...so we didn't really worry about it.

It's a club and there is dance music playing so a certain percentage of people are going to be doing drugs. We randomly run searches on the doors and anyone inside spotted doing something stupid would get their stuff taken off them, thrown out and barred.

When your doing security in a club you need to realise that you don't want the place getting the rep of a handy spot to do drugs. Don't get me wrong, i've partied myself plenty but the second a place becomes a known easy spot to do drugs you tend to get dealers trying to move in and things can get a bit messy.

I would find it highly unlike the cops will be brought into the above scenario. I reckon the reason your mate was chucked out, especially if he is known to the bouncers, is because he was being a bit of a dope by openly rolling a joint. Whenever i caught a regular doing silly **** in the open i had no problem ****ing them out...because it's basically them taking the piss out of you.

Whether your mate will get back in...i doubt it will be an issue. The lads on the door don't often rotate inside and vice versa so he should be alright. I don't really have any idea how CD run that policy though.

will never make it to the police and if it did it would be the faintest slap in the wrist possible

I've seeing people getting back into clubs for a lot lot worse offenses, maybe if he gives it a miss for a few months and goes back then it will be forgotten about, certainly nothing to worry about either way

Rolling a joint in the smoking area? Unless the place is at capacity, you're always going to get caught. Getting your weed taken off you should be enough to teach your mate to go around the corner, or to the jacks, next time.

It won't get to the guards, bouncers seemed pretty fair in the situation.

I've seen people smoking joints in the TP's smoking area and getting kicked out for it. Sparking up in a smoking area that size, with bouncers 6 feet away from you, is beyond retarded.

As for getting back in, I was roused form a trance by a bouncer in a popular Dublin dance club, back arched across two chairs and my eyes in the back of my head. I was told very politely that I couldn't stay there in that state, and was escorted out without any physical contact. Let me in with a smile a week later. They hadn't searched me for anything, though.

The policy in these clubs seems fair. They don't want to scare away the clientèle, but nor do they want to be seen as dens of iniquity. Just don't wear a big flashing sign saying "I am imbibing illegal substances" (which is what smoking weed in a confined area amounts to) and you'll be grand.

Anyone who skins up or lights up in an environment where they are likely to be caught is showing disregard for the owners of the venue, its staff and others who are trying to be discrete by going to the inconvenience of stepping outside.

I also reckon anyone who brings €80 worth of weed into a club is begging to be caught. The key to success is discretion and a willingness to fly beneath the radar when partaking in public places.

Still, I suppose you'd be Ok just to head in and if you see the same bouncer just apologise and tell them you'll not do it again. Leave your mate at home though :)

crawdaddys have had issues under 'combating drug abuse act' in recent months being issued with a warning - staff have had to undergo training in responsible service of alcohol and drug awareness on your licensed premises. the security staff from p and b security also did this training - obviously it worked because you were caught - they would bag and tag the drugs and give to the local drug sgt at an appropriate time - as part a of the initative ' nightsafe' an initative by the irish night club industry association participating clubs undergo this training - clubs do there best and can not turn a blind eye toward drug use on their premises - remember though alcohol is the most abused drug in ireland !

Reading some of these posts, I reckon weed affects a person's ability to spell. :)
