    stock imo.

    root it
    install jkay
install golauncher (or whatever custom launcher you prefer)
use titanium to freeze or uninstall the samsung apps you dont use

I'm not sure what the advantages are with custom roms these days. certainly root, and the apps that use it, are a big advantage, but custom roms arent needed for that.

Trying to find jkay framework to download, the links on his thread on xda for mediafire don't go anywhere, well not for me anyway. Looks good and I will probably buy the settings app too if I get the framework sorted.

    http://www.mediafire.com/jkay14_1

and its definitely worth getting the deluxe settings apk

Not seen much other than the alpha port of jellybean for the GS2

Are you guys hopeful of a usable jellybean rom and do you think there are major barriers to it happening?
Thing I really want access to is the google now and the offline voice search :D

Looks great..always wanted to be able to control my mp3 player with voice command when driving

I've had quite a few problems since moving to RR (2.4.1) - getting horrible battery drain lately, phone is barely lasting a full day in work with light-moderate use.

Going to try CM9 tonight I think.

Also, and this might be more hardware related, in the last week or so the majority of the time my phone thinks it is charging when it is not. I'm sure this is part of the problem of the battery drain and i'm hoping its software related not hardware. I've heard a toothbrush to the charging port can sort that out if it is hardware. Anyone had that problem before?

Done, cheers. Think the download issue was mine.

Have bought the deluxe settings apk, so looking forward to tinkering with it now!

Installed Jellybean CM10 preview today. I have to say for a preview release it's working pretty well. There's a thread on xda about it

flashed the latest dark knight kernel today in order to add BLN support which i had to forgot to check was enabled after flashing back to stock.

battery life & system performnace has been pretty good on the stock kernel so will be interesting to see if any changes with the customer kernel

Cool, any major bugs? Is it suitable for day to day use?

A couple of other ROMs based off it are appearing too, awesome stuff:

AOKP Pure JB - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798266 - (this one has 15 toggles or whatever)
Kaffee4Eck CyanogenMod 10 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797821 (wifi dodgy in this one)
    X-TremE CM10 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795200
All early builds of course (based on an early build), so please read the threads!

I have been running it since the day before yesterday. I have had no issues. The only thing that is not 'buttery'. The developers are still working on that.

Anybody try the paranoid android JB rom. Came out this morning. On v1.6 am am very happy with it. Really makes the phone feel like a different type of machine altogether!

Cool, I think butter will be something worth getting, like popcorn at the cinema! :pac:

FYI bluetooth audio streaming also doesn't work currently on CM10, so if you use your phone for listening to music in the car (which I do, every day) then you might want to hold off until it's fixed.

Also battery seems to run out a bit quicker for me. I assume that it will improve with later updates.

So I rooted my phone with no problems yesterday. Now I am on to the stage of using a new ROM. Can anyone recommend me one? I am close to cluesless as this point:confused:

Not an expert myself at all but everything you will need is right here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1055

I'm on Paranoid Android 1.95 which is a Jelly Bean Rom based on CM10. I like it quite a lot although they are still trying to sort battery life out.

I would stay on stock, subway had a good post about this option, works well for me anyway.

Have all my contacts and images of contacts on exdialler does the back up of the app also back up the numbers and images if not what is the best way?

Can back up the SMS via GoSMS

    Thanks

Your contacts should be backed up on the Google servers

Since I hace flashed the paranoid android ROM I can't get my phone to connect to my laptop (mac) as removable storage anymore. It starts charging but neither the internal SD or external SD card show up anymore! Anyone have an idea?

Have you got android file transfer for Mac?

I do. It usually starts once I plug the phone in but not anymore. tried wiping the cache as that sorted it for me before but alas not today!

    Backed up contacts via Kies

installed Resurrection and Doh Kies does not work with this

Have the previous Rom backed up via CWM but now have to do restore

Whats the best option of restoring contacts with resurrection without installed stock rom

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭BopNiblets

The best option is Google Contacts I don't know why anyone wouldn't use it, they're all just there as soon as you sign into your account on a new ROM!

You can flash Google Now on rooted ICS SGS2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756226&postcount=2856

I used the Mikey6_Offline.zip and it's working fine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,709 ✭✭✭Irish Gunner

Loaded up resurrection & not bad however does not support J Kay & although you can add themes prefer jkay went back on litening.

Looked at paranoid android but not to impressed.

Any other good Roms that update regular & are Jkay supported seen them all on Xda just looking for users opinions

Has anyone tried 64GB SD card with S2? I'm finding some contradicting info on the net: official page says up to 32GB, but I found a post claiming that 64GB works as well.
