Is Market Kitchen in Brennans? If so, I think the lease was up on the restaurant and it wasn't renewed (don't know who didn't renew it)

Not 100% sure about Murphy's, think the bank was involved. A lot of rumours going around it will be open again before you know it!

App market kitchen has moved premises but have no idea where in ballina they are now located.

I think they might have moved next door to the opposition! Not sure how true that is, haven't been in that place in a while.

As a taxi driver in Ballina the closure of Longnecks Murphy Brothers is a big loss to our business. I have heard rumours tonight that it is reopening in a few weeks time. With the closure of Quattro Bar and now Longnecks there is nowhere now for the 18-20 year olds to go. I got two calls tonight to pick up in Crossmolina as a disco has opened up there in the Dolphin. We are driving our young people out of town and they will go further afield if there is no place for them to socialise. I hear that Brennans and Crocketts operate an over 21 policy as does the Bard. Talk about driving business away from the town!. Its only the young people that do go out at weekends and my business depends on these people.
And its terrible to think we are trying to attract people to Ballina with the Salmon Festival week starting next weekend and no disco in the town. Sad really :(

I doubt there has been in a disco in Mayo in the last 10 years? Not unless it was for a 70's 80's college reunion.

I would say most young people would not be seen dead at a Disco. Times have moved on.

There is no need for that. I take whatever fares come my way whether its local or out of town. Dont tar all taxi drivers with the same brush!

Keep it on topic please, thanks

    Sorry Yop!
Just very noticeable last night how many people were missing from the town while the younger ones went off to other towns where there is a younger crowds disco.
Ballina town is in bother and a business like Murphy Bros to close its doors is not good for the town. People have lost jobs and younger people have lost a place to socialise.
I heard last night that Longnecks is supposed to be opening up again in a couple of weeks. What a pity that it is closed now with the Festival starting next Sunday night. Hopefully loads of visitors to the town over that week and no disco on. Terrible!

I was out both Friday and Saturday nights past in Ballina.
Had a few pals down from Belfast who are regular visitors. They could not believe how quiet the bars were.
On the Friday night the most popular and busiest bar in Ballina town centre was about a third full when I left at half 12.
On the more busier Saturday night a bar/club 10mins drive outside Ballina town centre was about a third full as well...and that is me being generous. The bar even provides free transport to and from the venue these days.
Though with a vodka and orange being 7 euros...who can blame people for drinking in the house if that is what they are doing. I could get about 4 vodkas and orange for that price with a carryout.

What's a disco? Lights turned down with music playing and a dance floor? I need to improve my street cred so enlighten me what Murphy Bros venue was.........

^^^If it was a few years ago, you should have gotten over it by now. Try sprinkling a little empathy for your town fellow on your porridge tomorrow.

I worked in Murphy Bros about 15 years ago. Soundest guys to work for. I honestly couldnt fault the fellows. Shane and Alan were great to all the staff there. Paul was a bit more distant, but I think only because the other 2 had such big personalities. Sorry to hear its closed and I hope it opens up again soon.

Lol - calling them disco is like my folks calling them dances back in the day! :D

Paul and Alan are now down in crockets, newfrocktuesday. They sold the name when they left there.

Longnecks is re-opening this Friday. Just in time for fireworks night/ mardi gras! :)
Apparently Market Kitchen is moving down there to Murphys.
Not sure if it's opening under new management or anything but at least it will be open again for another while! The town just wouldn't be the same without a nightclub, especially considering the amount that were open here a few years ago!
