    hi, can someone please tell me this: are there any companies in ireland who would cover me for the event of my flights being cancelled due to an airline bankruptcy?
    preferably in a single trip policy, too :)

    i've had a look through AIB's single trip travel insurance T&C http://aib-travelcover.ina-box.co.uk/Documents/AIB/AIB_Lite_Holiday_Travel_PolicyWording_2011a.pdf , and it's neither included nor excluded in the list - which i am taking to mean that in practice it will be excluded. am i right?

    from their policy:
    CANCELLATION, CURTAILMENT OR
    REARRANGEMENT

    will pay =
    a Public Conveyance
    being cancelled or
    curtailed because of
    adverse weather, industrial
    action, strike, riot,
    civil commotion or
    mechanical breakdown
    or derangement

    will not pay =
    if a strike or industrial
    action is public knowledge
    when this Policy is
    taken out or a Holiday
    is booked;
    iii. if an aircraft, sea vessel
    or train is withdrawn
    from service on the orders
    of the recognised
    regulatory authority in
    any country;

    no mention of default/insolvency/bankruptcy/"airline failure"

    Not sure of specific poicies, you may have to call and ask but I do know if the airline is a member of the itaa
    http://www.itaa.ie/
    Then you are protected from bankruptcy to some extent. As in they'll get you home at the very least. Check out their site above.

    If you pay for the flight using a Visa or MasterCard you should automatically be covered should an airline collapse (not saying you shouldn't have travel insurance for other stuff though).

    There should be no need to have special cover as part of a travel insurance policy.

    EDIT:actually use these guys and it seems they now airline failure specifically.

    just found this:

    You are not covered for
    Any costs resulting from the Insolvency of:
    a) Any scheduled airline which is insolvent or in respect of which any prospect of Insolvency is known at the date of issue of the policy.

    define "any prospect" :D
