Have done , as have a good few on this forum. The watch arrives after approx. 2 days with a customs bill of 11 euro no matter which watch you buy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,268 ✭✭✭jh79

Hadn't noticed it was larger , seen it alright but assumed it was 38mm like the others.

Liking the Orient though, kinda fleiger feel to it.

Sweet Jesus, the battery for some of my old watches is more expensive than that watch. Incredible value.

If this is as good as the description says, you'd better be quick because the price is good ...but then again, the picture doesn't really show much detail...

    Reason why I'm not buying:
While would like to buy every good looking chronograph Poljot ever made, sense does kick in occasionally :D

A nice looking NOS Poljot. This is from Russia so not a Soviet model. Probably after 2000 one.

Not entirely sure that this is a real Poljot ...would need to see the back / inside to be convinced

    I've gone and done a Peasant :)

Arrived yesterday all the way from Russia.

    300298.jpg

Vostok Amphibia with a 2209 movement. On the dial it says in Cyrillic script Vostok, 18 jewels and Made in CCCP. Appears to be an earlier one, 80's rather than a 90's one. They can be hard to date I gather. It's got the right earlier movement, bezel, dial design and hands all match in (badly painted) "lume", non anti magnetic and it's all in Russian so it looks more for the domestic market. Bit of honest wear to the bezel and it didn't come from a watch dealer, just general stuff, only two watches.

I'm impressed I have to say. The case is well solid and doesn't feel cheap by any means, the dial is a nice metallic blue brushed finish with a kind of dish towards the middle. The seconds hand is very smooth too. Timekeeping since yesterday is within a couple of seconds of true.

Cost? 10.99 plus postage. I know. How cool. Only took a fortnight to get here too.

Better pic in the show us your watches thread when I get around to it. :o

On the Vostok above, it's consistent(very) at losing 5 seconds a day, which is bloody amazing IMHO, so has anyone successfully regulated one of these guys at home? I'm being a picky/sad git[delete as applicable] I grant you, but there's a part of me would love to get this old Russian designed watch, oft thought of as a cheap clunker, to near chronometer status. :D

I'm still well impressed by it's quality I have to say. The whole thing shouts "solid". The steel of the case has a lovely silky feel to it and came up a treat after an attack of Brasso, as did the crystal. The screw on crown is also silky in operation and once you get used to the Wostoc Wobbly Crown/Boctoc Bockity Crown(tm) to wind and set the time it becomes second nature. The chromed brass bezel lets the side down though. The dial in the flesh is better than I would have thought and the hands are pretty decent. OK no it's not Rolex territory, but it's about on par with mid range 70's watches I've handled and better than many French examples of same(and the whole watch costs less than a pair of genuine Rolex springbars so...). I dunno if the current range are better in the dial regard?

All in all, I came to Vostoks too late and should have jumped sooner. Well worth the price of admission and although I got mine for the price of two Dublin city centre pints, knowing what I do now, I would have happily paid the price of a night out in the same Dublin city centre. Including taxis. Buy one folks, ye won't be disappointed.

It's a nice enough watch OR, however bear in mind that at 22mm in width it's going to be absolutely tiny by todays standards, more like a "ladies" watch. The dial looks like it's been redone which would hit the value and the caseback may have had a personal inscription at some point. Personally I'd keep looking myself.

Thanks Wibbs. You're right, the marking on the back of the case is horrid and the dial is a little to clean.
    I'll keep looking.

Nice looking Raketa Pilot 24H here, without strap. Looks original (thin hands, correct movement), but I'm no expert:

Bought this watch the other day, I really liked the face on it:

Yeah I really like that colour on a dial with the starburst effect. Reminds me of a couple of beautiful watches (that will likely never appear on this thread) that I would love to own.

Does look nice and seriously tempting. Probably need to add a service to the price though.

    It's semi-original :D

The movement is original Raketa, but not original 24h ...it's a modified standard 12h 2609 movement with a different hour wheel.

The case, plexi and most likely the hands (maybe not the second hand) also are original Raketa.

The dial is of recent manufacture, as is the assembly of all the bits.

So NOT the CCCP piece it pretends to be but still (at the right price) a bit of good fun and in my opinion one of the best (from a logical legibility point of view) 24 h designs

    kinda like this one: :D

Damn TZ and their reg block. :(:( :) 90 quid. Talk about bargain. My example of the breed is still keeping to losing 4-5 seconds per day. That's wearing or on the bedside table, dial up or down. So it's consistent in a couple of positions. These "cheap" watches can be bloody good performers if you get a good un.

Maybe not a bargain, but there is a Dornbluth for sale over on TZUK, don't seem come up to often

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,305 ✭✭✭Homer

LOVE that Dornbluth.. it's a tad too similar to my Portugeuse. Have been on their website and researched them a bit and think the 99.1 will be in my collection at some stage.

Yeah, I agree with you there. I've gone so far as to request a pricelist. Would probably like to order one at some stage as I believe they are obliging with customisation, which if you're brave can create beautiful unique pieces. Find photos of Jocke at TZUK's Regulator here
