am 50 this year and am looking for something special...

Me too, what are you thinking of getting?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Have no idea..was trying to get something that was limited and bag number 50, but may just get something new and maybe get it engraved, was looking at Stowa Aviator Classic Chrono

But may really go to town and get a Panerai or Omega DSOM or GSOM

    What you thinking of?

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

:D Yeah might be again time for your cheapskate in residence to do a trawl of eBay for "you'd be surprised what 200-300 quid will get you" type post.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Something for the ladies, I know sfa about omegas but there seems to be a lot of fairly good quality watches for sale in Japan, these sellers are worth a regular check in, but the watches are a bit like Jap import cars, similar but different IYKWIM. 12 hours left and I'd be surprised if it went over €150

Here's a Chinese Tudor Snowflake clone from Hong Kong:

It says it has sapphire glass and a Miyota 8215 engine ...if that's true then 120 quid is not a bad price at all

So I had been desperate for an orange ocean 2 last year. I missed the sale of one 2nd hand or else I pm'd the owner of one (that had posted a picture). Can't remember exactly and can't trace the contact now.

    Anyway......they didn't want to sell.

A year later they they have got in touch and want to sell. Watch was 490 euros new. They offered it at the bargain price of 550gbp.

    Gee thanks.

I said now. Not even the money but it's 43mm and has a large crown and I suspect wears large! I can't get on with the bigger watch. Trying hard to bond with the tissot I got last week but it's not working so far!

Nice Poljot automatic with stainless steel body (same case as the Sturmanskie chronographs)

looks to be in good condition ...good enough for 30 quid anyway

(picture too big for this site)

Low start on this Longines heritage conquest, if anybody wants vintage looks and a modern movement under the bonnet;)

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Longines-heritage-conquest-Automatic-gents-watch-2008-New-12-Months-Warranty-/272259015003

At present it's still cheaper than the strap:eek:

Warning folks, l**5, check out this bidder, feedback of just 3, and 100% of bids with this seller, shill bidding happens. Might be better to just sit this one out and PM the seller after he buys it himself. Or else just put on your watch list and let them get all excited ('',). Wibbs if you want to delete this I won't mind either.

There were 13 bids from £1 up to £102 before he made his one bid to bring it to £104. Strange for a shill bid to move things on by just £2, and they they bid so early.
The other 6 bidders look genuine.

BUT, with 14 bids bringing the price up to £104 and 6 days to go - this watch will not finish up as a bargain alert!

Click on 'automatic bids' and you'll see he was bidding from £11.50 up.

I don't know where it will end, but when I posted the link it was at £11.50, if someone here really wanted the watch they could have put a big bid on or they can wait until there's a few seconds left. I reckon the shill bid is higher than £104, the £104 is the highest someone else(a normal bidder) is prepared to pay at present. I agree it looks strange going up £2 at a time, hopefully I've explained why.

Here's what they normally sell for http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=Longines+heritage+conquest+Automatic&_sacat=0

In my humble opinion it's still a bargain.:)

He has some interesting older pieces Seikos and various swiss brands I'm not aware of (but I'm sure Wibbs is!) for not much money some as little as €50. Anything grab you Wibbs? I quite like some of the quirky 1970's pieces

Pics from some of his adds he does have some high end stuff but a lot is under the €100 mark

The cheaper stuff seems priced about right for what appears to be a dealer, the high end stuff is a little stiff on price IMH. I'd think of the sub hundred quid stuff as "fashion watches" R. Look funky, don't cost much, won't break your heart if they crap out. I'd go on looks more than anything. Seiko would be the better bet for spares and quality.

I'm intrigued by his Omega Dynamic bracelet and can't work out whether it's correct, in which case it's a bargain, or a bitser. I'm feeling a bit broke at the moment so am not in the mood to take the chance.

As Wibbs says, a couple of interesting Seikos but lots of due diligence required to make sure that they're not Phillipino specials; not something I know a lot about.

  • Registered Users Posts: 673 ✭✭✭CarltonBrowne

    mad muffin wrote: »

It hasn't been very sympathetically re-finished and really needs to go on a lapping machine. The good news is that there's probably plenty of metal on the case and bracelet for this still to be feasible. It needs a signed crown but, to be fair, they're sort of up front on that.

I am not normally a fan of thrashing other's adverts but I would be wary of some of the Seiko models, especially the 5's. Most of those listed were sold mainly in the likes of India & Pakistan. Some of the case backs are not correct and have been refinished and restamped.

One model is a 6309-8800, case back is below. Check the model number out and you will see more feiko's than Seiko's. If the movement in this watch was any way good at all it would have been whipped up and used as a spare for a 6309 diver but they normally have butchered screw heads with incorrect rotor's.

India is to Seiko 5 as the Philippine's are for divers, buyer beware.

An example, totally refinished and the Seiko marking is even off center.

I bought a watch from him; it was mostly my own fault really but it was broken. I rushed the purchase as I was short on time so met, let him demonstrate it and agreed. Only at home did I realise it was in fact broken but kind of disguised (it was a chrono with broken chrono functions). I didn't spend a lot on it, felt quite annoyed with myself mostly, so didn't pursue it (bar adding a poor feedback I think), and ended up messing about with it trying to fix it which was alright in its own way. But I'd certainly be wary of making another purchase.

I'd be very wary of the LCD F. Unless you can source the correct module from another watch it's going to be an ornament. It's not in great condition and the bracelet is only for those thin of wrist. It's not particularly large either. Really the only thing going for it is the name

I had a conversation with Jack Norman at a TZ-UK GTG a couple of years ago and he reckoned that he had a fix for the Heuer. If you're serious it might be worth making contact.
