I got a Bulova special edition moonwatch for 330 for my Dad and a G-shock compass/altimeter/barometer/radio controlled solar watch for 200 for a friend.

Was almost tempted to get myself a moonwatch too - still have 2 left and I had just lost my speedmaster after all :(

Nicely done, but where did you get a Bulova Moonwatch?

The moonwatch can be found in the H Samuel store - I think they still have one left in the store when I left last night (returned the Citizen Auto) - the Bulova on stainless steel bracelet for 385 (after 50% off).

Think they were around €550 new before being sold out.

This won't be a bargain or one to watch IMO.
There's a frenzy for them at the moment and are exchanging hands for €700+

I think they were $499 but sold out v quick, that might go for $5-600, but depends how badly 2 people want the number 4 of 300. I reckon Steinhart will be making more, hold off unless you really, really want a limited edition one. If anybody wants to bid on it ask mods to 'hide' it.

Having a browse on Chrono and I came across this Omega skeleton from 1916 for €829.

Skeletons seem to be Marmite watches, you either hate them or love them. This one's a peach though.

Converted pocket watch in new case. Quite the common thing from Eastern European sellers. Can be quite high quality work too. One problem is they have no shock protection as they were designed to be worn in a waistcoat not on a wrist which is more likely to get a shock.

Absolute bargain, but I will resist the temptation to buy....this is obviously one of them items that sounded better in the proposal than the execution.

These last few examples put me in mind of a recent axiom:
You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.

    Quite.

All that glitters is not gold:D

I prefer the later versions of these, but this might be worth watching.

Aye, gold plated, even gold watches tend to be cheaper as steel is more popular. I'd see this topping out around the 500 quid level.

Slightly different and military and rare enough to come by. Wagner WW2 German issued RLM(Reich Air Ministry) watch.

    s-l500.jpg

Up to around 1942 the Germans got their military issued stock from Swiss sources, but were running out of hard currency so enlisted local German companies to produce them. In particular these RLM watches were issued to paratroopers and other Air Force staff(rarer again are the navy examples). They used an existing rectangular movement originally fitted to what had been the fashion for 1930's "Tank" style watches, but adapted to a round case. A very solid little movement it is too. The other advantage to these watches is that they're larger(36mm) than the more usual Army DH watches at 34mm. They're all plated cases however so usually show wear, but I'd call that "patina". :D This example is in good order, the only non original part being the crown. At under 200 squids that IMHO is a "bargain". Dealers usually look for more like three times that and above.

    My example.

Just saw somebody got that Wagner for 150 quid. Major bargain. In my humble of course. :) *prays it's a local*

    Ye're lucky I'm broke and a cheapskate...:D

Another Longines. This time an Ultronic from the early 70's. Built around an ESA tuning fork movement based on the Bulova movement that went before. Fascinating movement type and the first widely successful electric movement. This one is the much rarer to see chronograph variant. IIRC the very first battery driven chronograph. Longines and Omega both brought out examples(Tissot too?). The Omega the more common, but still rare. Longines had two, a big chunky square version and this, the lesser seen of the two(and more like the Omega).

    s-l500.jpg

    Original Longines bracelet too.

    s-l500.jpg

Being of the 70's it's a "large" watch too so fashionable today.

Now it's an auction, so with under two days to go it could go either way. Dealers usually look for between 1200-2000 for one of these(The equivalent Omega would be at least a third more), so if you got a sneaky bid in and snatched it for under 8-900 I reckon you'd be quids in.

I have my grandfather's Ultra-Chron and they are a lovely watch. 36mm case but if you can wear that size this might be worth bidding on.

The dial looks good, hands might need a little tidying and the 36k Cal 431 movement looks clean.

Finished at $338 not a bad price for the auction winner.
