    Great pictures John

A great day had by all. Although that view is not shared by some

Cllr Ciarán Hayden said “Sispar have gone way and beyond their remit at the harbour with this very generous package for the community. We could be left with nothing like most derelict sites in Ireland today. We are very lucky to have companies like Park Developments and Sisk involved in this development. If it had been any other developer there would be nothing and the protesters fail to recognise that. I am calling on the protesters to take a step back, recognise the genuine work Sispar are doing for the community and call off their silly protest that is using children to push their agenda. It is quite clear to me and others that this protest group have rejected every proposal bar their own and it is now obvious that they are protesting for the sake of protest and nothing else. It is despicable that they are going to use children to push their negative agenda. If that harbour was fully built out tomorrow with all its wonderful community facilities I wonder would this group would still have a problem. They need to pack up the negative banners and move on, they are getting much more than they ever could have hoped for.”

Cllr Ciarán Hayden should have said “Sispar have gone way and beyond below their remit at the harbour by not finishing it on time with this very generous package pretty nice but nowhere near what we were promisedpackage for the community. We could be left with nothing like most derelict sites in Ireland today and have been for the last 18-24 months. We are very lucky to have companies like Park Developments and Sisk involved in this development (debatable). If it had been any other developer there would be nothing and the protesters fail to recognise that. the money still would have run out, regardless. I am calling on the protesters to take a step back, recognise the genuine work Sispar are doing for the community and call off their silly (Way to antagonise people) protest that is using children to push their agenda. It is quite clear to me and others whom I fail to mention that this protest group have rejected every proposal bar their own and it is now obvious that they are protesting for the sake of protest and nothing else a harbour closer to what we were promised when we gave up this local amenity this local amenity was closed from us. It is despicable that they are going to use children to push their negative agenda. (I wouldnt go so far as to say despicable, but I can see his point somewhat) If that harbour was fully built out tomorrow with all its wonderful community facilities I wonder would this group would still have a problem. Obviously not, has he read what GUBOH stands for? They need to pack up the negative banners and move on, they are getting much more than they ever could have hoped for.” We all (including those not involved in the protest) were promised all sorts for this harbour. Being Ireland, I know I anticipated getting less than promised, but still getting a finished structure, so no what we are getting is not more than I ever hoped for.

    FYP

Also, I should say that I would accept SISPAR's latest proposal. More protests=more delays and in fairness, it does look quite nice.

Is this guy Hayden for REAL!!!! Seriously get out of the pocket of the developer and stop talking rubbish!!! The people of Greystones will not be happy till the development is finished as promised!!! People dont pander to political crap talk anymore. That land and area is an was a public amenity and until it is again the people of greystones and their children can protest about whatever and whenever they want so how dare he issue such a statement ( I wasnt there but I wish I had been now) . So I say to Cllr Hayden that his moral and ethical views on this issue would be taken with a rather small pinch of salt and does anyone really listen to him anyway!!! Yawnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!! NEXT!!!

I like the 'moral and ethical' reference, Sparks. On his own website today Hayden has a photo captioned 'One of the many boats enjoying our wonderful harbour yesterday'. That's his son, Rian, driving his boat, but the intent is to give the impression it's a visitor.

I agree with you on the politics. Yesterday the new Mayor, Tom Fortune, appealed to the mavericks to take the political arguments out of this issue, as it is a community issue. A month ago, the Town Council took a united approach and AGREED that politics would be kept out of it. Since then, two of them have broken ranks and launched tirades of abuse against GUBOH, much of it personal and defamatory — that's Hayden and also Derek Mitchell. The weird thing is, both of them had their proposals binned by Sispar, yet they insist on reporting some cloud cuckoo land in which Sispar is 'giving' everything that everyone wants.

And the abuse goes on. Time these mavericks realised that the community IS united. All they are doing now is giving Sispar the impression that the community is divided when in fact it is not.

The proof of the following of GUBOH can really only be manifested by the next set of local elections when perhaps some GUBOH members will stand for election and oust the likes of Mitchell and Hayden. While I support the efforts of GUBOH, comments such as "self elected" by Mitchell does no favours to the campaign. Getting them out will teach them a lesson.

FWIW, we went down to the harbour on the spur of the moment yesterday and had a look at the slip. Nice to see the boaters getting use of the facility, no wonder Hayden was looking so smug.

Wasn't aware that the GUBOH event was being staged BEHIND the Beach House. Not much point bringing buckets and spades to a pub is there? No wonder the Byrne's are behind the campaign! :)

Unfortunately, the elections are 3 years off, so that proof is not open to GUBOH. As I understand it, the GUBOH committee see this as a single-issue campaign — and the sooner they win their objectives and can pack the GUBOH bags, the better they'll like it. But you could be right, Mikedragon — Mitchell was perfectly happy for the hoardings to stay until 2014 until GUBOH came along. If Sispar don't get to work, maybe he will face a GUBOH candidate. I reckon that if there were TC elections next week, GUBOH would sweep the boards.

Yeah, I've been down the harbour lots the past ten days and it's great to see all the activity, including the swimmers, the sailors, the kayakers, and so on... and yesterday the very first sandcastle was built on the new beach.

There are signs of further movement by Sispar, under pressure. There would be more if Hayden and Mitchell would just shut up and leave the politics out of it — they are the ones who are out of step, and who are creating the false impression of division on this issue.

One of the committee told me they had originally planned a short rally on the plaza outside the Beach House, which is why the car park was blocked off, with the party happening in the field. When they saw the crowds inside the harbour and were warned that a regatta was taking place, they decided for safety reasons to keep everything inside the Beach House grounds — too many kids and too much traffic.

Could have done better with the redirection signs, though. Quite a few people went home thinking it was cancelled.

Buckets & spades to a pub? Well, some of the kids actually managed to dig up some of the field and put it in their buckets. Don't forget, MikeD, that the BH was the traditional venue for open-air gigs and events in summer, always hosting the Arts Fest, for example, so no surprise that the GUBOH party was there. Where else in Greystones can you get over 1,000 people at an open-air gig?

Good point on the use of the BH for gigs Durutti Column, but there was no sign of anything going on as we approached from the Cliff Road, so after looking at the slip and the "beach" we just turned back the way we came. Judging by the number of young families doing the same I'd say the GUBOH event missed a larger crowd.

I wonder if the regatta was organised before or after the GUBOH event?
