    What is a 7 mm08

7mm 08 is the caliber. It is a derived from the .308 Winchester necked down to 7mm.

So the 7mm refers to the diameter and the 08 refers to the parent cartridge

    7mm-08 in layman's terms is a .308 with a slightly narrower head.
Thus you can fly lighter rounds and have less bullet drop over the same range as a .308 while still having very similar knock down and milder recoil.

It was also used for targets but as a hunting round it is quite popular for milder recoil, less drop and the similar accuracy and similar punch in the same rifle.

Hornady chamber ammo in 139grain which some prefer over the heavier 150-200 grain .308
