Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Does anyone know if employers generally see level 7 courses as a lot better than a level 6 course ?

Have applied to through the CAO to do a level 7 course but it's around 50km away while the level 6 course is just down the road.

Plus the level 6 course is around 6 months rather than 3/4 years.

    Thanks

It's a pretty impossible question to answer without knowing the courses, the colleges, the employers' needs, the context ... but as a general rule, the higher level courses will be more impressive, yes.

Also remember that there are differences in courses between both the level that they're aimed at AND the credit volume / size.

The course down the road that's 6 months is not, for example, a Higher Certificate (also at Level 6) which has been squashed into 6 months, it's a smaller volume course and the qualification will reflect this.

It may be worth talking to the local provider about the Level 6 course. Are there links in place with higher level courses? If the two are closely related with regard to subject matter, it is *possible* that the Level 6 course may gain you an exemption from Year 1 of the Level 7 course? (such arrangements exist, but not by any means everywhere, and it depends a lot on course content).

I would strongly advise doing your research and talking to both colleges (and preferably someone who works in the area / an employer for a different perspective) before making your decision.
