Good luck to him indeed, a great player to watch...

Shame he left without a proper goodbye at the lane. He said he knew they wanted him before the Euros and in fairness to him he gave Levy another season so I won't begrudge him his big move... Sadly we can't match his ambitions at the moment but we're making progress in the right direction (I hope!)..

agree with the above. he's a top class player and an absolute joy to watch when he's on form. he can spot passes that some player can only dream about. he used to be my second favourite player after the king.

it really is too bad that it has ended the way it has. however he has had a key part to play in the clubs success over the past few seasons.

    good luck to him

Maybe if he'd refused to play against City and when 'his head wasnt right' against United we'd have finished with a couple more points last season and be playing CL football this year instead of Arsenal.

    Adios Luka.

What a little prick... Fuming watching him come on! Yet I hope he does well.

I'm very 50/50 on this... Hope he breaks his leg/scores a screamer.

Still surprised he left to play with the likes of Ronaldo and play against Messi, Ineista and Xavi when he could be alongside Jenas and Bentley and play against wes houlihan and bassong.

    The mind baffles :p

Hate him (kinda) for leaving Tottenham, still watched RM V Barca to see how he got on, was (kinda) glad he played well, really fitted in, yea he'll do well there, fair play! Good luck. Luka.

And BTW will be following RM (kinda against my will) to see how he gets on. Hope he does well.

Great to see all the goodwill for Modric, whatever about his last few weeks he was a fantastic player for us, and got us a nice profit when he finally did leave. I hope he doesn't return to the Lane with Real, he won't get a good reception (to say the least) and he deserves one imo.

A Tottenham great. Players come and go its how they do when at WHL that counts.
With LM pulling the strings we briefly supped at the elite table.

Am delighted he's gone to the biggest club in the world and I hope he succeeds in all he wishes.

    pfft! Bahh!!!

I gotta agree with you there Donk, a 6 year contract was signed and there followed 2 summers in a row of pouting to go to 2 different "dream" clubs.

I honestly would understand him leaving to join a bigger club, but his lack of class and lack of respect for the club pi$sed me off.

I don't hate him. I'm not bitter. We doubled our money and I'm thrilled with Dembele as a replacement.

Don't be naive, the six year contract was signed so that DL could get the biggest transfer fee possible when an elite club come calling, all part of 'the gentlemans agreement'. Chelsea came calling with £40m, Luka and Levy's understanding of an elite club were different. Luka agreed to give us one more season and Levy dragged the transfer out over the summer trying to get the best deal for Tottenham INC.

Please show me the quotes where he disrespected the club?

Also, don't be naive and think that Gareth Bales new contract doesn't contain the exact same 'gentlemans agreement'. If we don't get CL in the next season or two he'll be off to the highest bidder..

He never said anything to disrepect the club. He let his agent do any talking that was done.

He disrepected the club by refusing to play in 2 league matches last season and by going on strike this summer.

What did his agent actually say?

I guess if your employer failed to honour what you thought were your terms and conditions you'd put the head down and still give 100%...?

I think you're being naive if you think Modric signed a 6 year contract in order to get the best transfer fee for Spurs. He signed it because it came with a big raise.

He disrespected the club and his teammates and the massive contract he had signed, by refusing to train and refusing to go on the trip to the USA. There are no quotes.

These gentleman's agreements do not exist. They are made up by the papers. If they wanted to make an agreement that Luka could go to an elite club, they could easily have put that into the contract with a definition of what an elite club was. At the time he signed the contract there may have been talk of allowing him to leave is such and such a club came calling, but if it wasn't put in the contract then it wasn't agreed. Simple as that.

Yes he gets a raise but DL gets the best price possible when selling. Let's not forget DL strategy of buy young = sell for big profit = fund new stadium, enhance the brand, then maybe sell club to highest bidder..

Levy is a very shrewd individual, who knows what specific conditions are in the players contracts. Real moved for Luka in May 2012, Levy had agreed to let him go but dragged it out to get the best possible deal hence 'the partnership agreement' which is all about the brand 'Tottenham' once again.. If such an agreement didn't exist why did Levy sell?

I agree completely, having players on long contracts ensures we get full value when we sell them on. But it seemed like you said that was why the contract was signed. It was signed by Modric cos it gave him a big raise.

I think Levy sold because it wasn't practical to keep Modric at the club when he didn't wanna be there. He was on huge money (by our standards) and he would only play worse and cause disruption and lose value if we kept him longer. Also, it was far preferable to sell him abroad than have him come back to haunt us on a regular basis.

"I spent four incredible years there. I would like to thank everyone in the club, the people who helped me in London. I want to thank the fans, because they treated me very well, they gave me a lot of affection and respect... it was a mutual feeling.

I want to thank my teammates too. Thanks to them I'm here now, and thanks to Tottenham as a club as well. I only have good memories from over there"

Yep, he is all sweetness and light now he has got his move. I'm not talking about his words, I'm talking about his actions. He was unprofessional and showed a lack of respect. There can be no doubt about that.

Agree totally. Little long haired mercenary. Good riddance. He really upset the apple cart at the start and end of last season. Now he is somebody else's problem. Bit ironic though, as Dembele behaved the same at Fulham!
