Deal or no deal? advice appreciated

Hello techheads of boards I come seeking advice on my new build, basicly my current PC is about 6-7 years old (holding up well i might add) but I need something better for newer games as im starting to get tired of many of the games my hardware can handle.

The i5-2500k completely rapes all the AMD chips. Its probable that it will outperform bulldozer as well for gaming. However, here is an AM3+ build:

I would imagine that Ivybridge will be equal, if not better, in every respect when compared with bulldozer, excluding price. Even if you don't upgrade, the 2500K can be overclocked to a serious rate, and I honestly doubt that the majority AMD chips, bulldozer or otherwise, will even be near the same level of performance as it, at least for another 2 years.

AMD provide more bang for your buck, thats really the main reason i stick with them. Im not trying to run crysis 2 on full settings or anything, i mainly play strategy games, so if it can run civ 5 without waiting 10 hours between turns its cool. an AMD black edition CPU can be overclocked to a large extent too with the proper cooling afaik.

I prefer the AMD CPUs as you get the necessary power for a lower price. Intel seem to be overpriced, so long as AMD cover everything you need its better to go for them in my opinion. Not an expert on the matter though.:D I went with the AM3+ mobo, just to have the option to upgrade to bulldozer if i need to.

The best "value" chips out now are probably the x3 450 and the AMD x4 955 (what I have at the mo)

But if you are spending that money (700) then it makes sense to get the i5 2500k, its just faster in every respect

I'm hoping that bulldozer will be great, but honestly, from everything I've read, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if the 2500k is better, fingers crossed anyhow

I totally agree, those Anandtech bar graphs speak volumes,
the i5 2500k really is knock your socks off performance-wise,
and having the 'k' chip means that you could easily extend your PC's usefulness by a couple of years.
