Black people aren't inherently more violent than non-Blacks, so let's not jump to the ridiculous.

What do you base that on ? ( Apart from a naive idea of equality )
It's inherently racist to think that everyone is equal in every way.

Africa is far from civilised, and some of these immigrants grew up in seriously messed up cultures and areas.

Because their parents may have been from an African country but they could have been born in Ireland and have been citizens since birth. Wouldn't that make them Irish, also?

And, why use the term African? Is that supposed to be the same as saying Black? Why aren't they identified by their country of origin if they aren't Irish? Why not say a group of Somali, Sudanese, Egyptian, etc. youth?

You are right..its entirely possible they are Irish citizens or have residency etc. but Im not sure if their country of origin is relevant.Comments about dropping from planes, returning to their own country etc are just idiotic not even racist

The article calls them African which suggests strongly they are foreign. I added the "if" as it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the paper got it wrong and they are Irish.

Besides, its not a racist sentiment. Foreign criminals should be deported, especially for repeated violent crimes. Doesn't matter if they are white or black.

These attacks are common knowledge to those of us who are working around the Templebar area.

In fact around the time of the incident being reported here there were threads posted in relation to attacks and muggings by black African youths in the Templebar area which were promptly locked and/or deleted.

    But!.

Yes there's a but, Templebar can be a violent area and in particular along the quays were there is a scarce Garda presence - (read non-existant) and attacks are carried out by lots of other gangs apart from the Africans.. Try hanging around Westmoreland Street & Aston Quay bus stops for a night and see the craic!... Its sickening.

But African gangs aren't the worse around that area, I'd be more weiry of the Bally'er, Tallaght & Blanch scumbags hanging around their bus stops and outside the Spar's and Centra's which do a roaring off licence sale in the area.

Mind the East European gangs too, vicious bastards altogether.

If Paddy from Roscommon was living legally in the States and one night he got drunk and brutally attacked someone, would you disagree with him getting deported back to his country of origin?
    I wouldn't.
And I wouldn't expect the American government to have to pay for his rehabilitation, maybe charge him in the States, put him on a plane and let him do his sentence in Castlrea.
Unfortuately that's not the way things work though.
And that gang of 'Africans' who done this should be ashamed and have really let down the majority of hard-working honest African immigrants.

    Yes, with good reason.
I've seen and experienced black violence, and they were caught in front of 90 witnesses and got probation.

Forgot to mention... CC TV footage too.
By the way, this was at 9am on a weekday in Dublin city centre in the height of rush hour.

Irish scumbags are one thing, they have a right to be here.
Immigrants were granted the privilege of being let into the country and this is how they repay the favour.

Does anyone here think this situation is going to get any better ?
    Be realistic here.
A load of young black people, who probably will be discriminated against for jobs. No work and lots of frustration, they're going to take their anger out on Irish people. This is going to get worse.

I don't want to appear as some PC pinko-liberal but all this talk of "deporting" them, technically speaking if they were born here to immigrant parents, they have just as much a right to be here as you and me, legally speaking.

Interesting. Why would I come to the rescue of a group of people who committed serious assaults? They inflicted extreme violence on others, therefore they deserve reprimand.
    I don't let their colour/ethnicity influence what I think of their behaviour/character - that's simple-minded. :)

The gang are now expected to face a huge number of charges, including multiple serious assault charges, violent disorder, theft and production of an offensive weapon.

So stamping on someone's head isn't attempted murder now? Good to know.

Just take a look at a city like Brussels or the suburbs of Paris the people are afraid to go into these areas as a result of African and Nth African street gangs.
Centre of Brussels is a very dangerous place on a night out and the locals are petrified of the African gangs that roam the streets, knife violence is huge.
It's a disgrace how they have let them take it over and if we do not do something here fast it will be just like that a complete dump .
Pc brigade need to be disbanded and a tough regime brought in for all offenders not just immigrants, but immigrants caught creating violence should have all their families social welfare stopped, see how long it would take for them to reform then.

Deport them all? Even if they are all Irish citizens? I do think it is fascinating that the terms "African" and "Irish" were used.

Yes, even if they are Irish citizens. If they can't adhere to the law, then they do not deserve citizenship. It is a privilege, not a right.

I would point to crime statistics. Up till about a year ago Ireland had approx 1/3 non national prison population, that would be up from roughly 0% about 20 yrs ago. In the UK and USA black people are, over the course of decade after decade, consistently far more heavily represented in prison populations per head of population.

Here's the thing - I'm all for immigration into Ireland. I unlike many like the diversity it brings to our cities. But what I will not tolerate is someone coming to Ireland, to engage in gang activity and hate crimes against the local population. Do that - and you lose any privilege you ever had of being here.

Could you imagine if a gang of Irish lads carried out a similar wave of violence in Lagos. I'd say the families wouldn't even have bodies to bury, after Nigerian justice was finished with them.

And the asylum seekers are claiming to be escaping from the worse parts of it, with their lives in danger. So they're either lying (see Pamela whatsherface thread) or we're allowing psychologically damaged individuals bought up in a culture of violence in.

They do have the same rights. I'm not referring to someone who has grown up in Ireland. I am referring to someone who has recently come to Ireland and has spat in the face of their hosts. I guess I should have stated resident, rather than citizen.

If someone has spent the majority of their life in Ireland, then I would view them as a naturalised citizen - and should be treated the same as anyone else. If someone has recently come to Ireland, and has gone to the lengths of joining a gang who's goal is to assault the local population - then they should be deported.

It's believed it was a racially motivated attack, but why is that I wonder? The fact that the victims are white doesn't necessarily mean that. To me it seems it was simply due to the attackers being thugs looking to vent. I remember an assault on a black woman in Cork which was deemed a racist attack, but going by the details, it seems like she would have been attacked if she were white too - it was a case of vicious thugs, wrong place, wrong time.

In all seriousness, if you are an immigrant to this country, or are here on 'humanitarian grounds' or awaiting a refugee appeal decision, and were a violent criminal - I would have no problem with that.

Regardless of colour, religion, height, sexual preference .. anything.

Likewise Irish who emigrate to Australia or the USA should be deported if they turn to violent crime. I'd perfectly understand and accept that also.

I don't think it was a racist attack either. Walk around Temple Bar at night, the vast, vast majority of people are White. I don't think these lads were walking around looking to kick the heads off solely white people, I think they were just walking around looking for a fight with anyone they saw, and considering the vast majority of people they'll see are white, they ended up only attacking white people. I don't consider it racism, I just think it's down to the fact that the majority of people in Temple Bar would be white.

Doesn't change anything though, they should still be sentenced as strongly as possible, just sensationalist reporting from tabloid rags as usual.

But we don't know if they aren't "naturalized" citizens. Of my 4 "black friends", all 4 of them were born and raised here, I'll assume they're roughly the same age of the gang in this article so there's a chance it could be the same, therefore making them Irish citizens. If this is the case, legally speaking they're as Irish as you and me. Now if this isn't the case and they are immigrants, they should be deported to wherever they came from without any hesitation.
