Gates are very narrow though, that would cause a massive bottle neck trying to get into the park via the Islandbridge gate, they could bring it all the way around to the NCR gate though.

In 2005 or 6 I remember leaving the park for this. Out the chapelizod gate I think and back in Chesterfield. There is an incline from the main gate that is a complete bitch at the 6mile mark I think.

On another note, in the discussion on the 5 miler there was a lot of talk about using gels and not using gels, that 5 miles was too short to use gels. Im gathering the 10 mile race is a different
animal and gels and all that malarkey would be beneficial at some point during the race.

There's really no need for gels or any such malarkey on a ten miler either. For one thing, if you've trained for the distance at all properly, then your body should have well over 10 miles worth of energy in glycogen reserves. It's well established that glycogen reserves don't generally run dry until 17-20 miles.

It also takes a couple of miles for gels to kick in so again, it's a bit dramatic taking them.

That's not to say that there would be no placebo effect to taking them. If a person feels they can kick on from a slump after taking a gel, then no reason not to take them.

My experience would be that in races of half marathon or less, the increased speed I'm running at would put too much pressure on abdominal muscles to consider taking much liquid or any gels on board. I'm pretty sure I would've gotten physically sick or severe stomach cramps in the 5 miler had I drank any water.

However, it's horses for courses. You'll see plenty of people in 10k events with a belt of gels, drinks, etc.

I am not going to mention Gels again :)

I will however be investing in a water belt. They look cool.

Oh right interesting, i'll take that on board so. I didnt use any of that stuff myself now but i did see people after about 2 miles necking some and it made me wonder.

Was it not quite a sharp turn coming back into the park from Conyngham road? I was going to mention going in that gate but the pavement hopping would cause all sorts of moaning on here. :pac:

Much smaller field back in 2006 too, my first time doing the series in 2007 there was only 2500 or so in the 5 mile...

Ah 2007, those were the days, most of the country were still preoccupied with furniture stores in retail parks and camping out overnight to buy houses from plans.

The rest of us knew where to be.

Does anyone have a screenshot of last years map or remember it?
I ran it but struggling to remember the course route?
I think it started on Chesterfield Avenue and then turned at the zoo and up North Road?
After that I'm not sure. Is this right?, my memory is shot!!!

    Thanks

Think I prefer last year's route. Not a fan of running Chesterfield Avenue away from Houston.

Entered. No going back now! Considering 5.8 miles is the most I'ver run in one go, I better up the training!!

I've entered too. Really enjoyed the 5 mile race so I decided to give this one a go. Am following Hal Higdon's training plan since I haven't run further than 7 miles before. Not really worried about my time, I'm just hoping that I don't have to walk any of the race.

Race organisers always publish these pace groups but it never seems to make any difference! :(

I heard a girl ask one of the marshals, halfway round a 4 mile race, is there no water station? The sound of panic in her voice amazed me.:)

I think there are some people who genuinely believe they are not capable of travelling a couple of miles without some sort of crutch.

    Yea Corny,
Given that I saw 3 people with Camelbaks on the 5 miler I'd have to agree. They didn't look like they were doing it as part of a LSR.

First ten mile too. Anything less than 120 and I'll be happy. Try for 100.
