You can keep your 2cents Dave I never wanted them in the first place:). Why am I running the race if Im not going for a pb or whatever? Heres the deal, the guy Im training with really wants to run this, I dont. I would prefer to just continue on with the training plan as scheduled. But because Phil is running the race that leaves me with a choice: Do the scheduled training session that week on my toblerone or run the race and do the session within the race itself, which is a far easier option than having to knock out a difficult session by myself. So I'm choosing option B. Im not tapering because that would defeat the purpose of the training plan Im following. The JD program does say you can replace sessions with races, but you gotta do exactly that, replace, not make allowances for. I mean if I was just doing the session I wouldnt taper for that. Not everybody runs races for PBs, soemtimes you gotta leave your ego at the door and keep your eyes on the prize.

    Jaysus serious talking there dude:)

Yeah one of the lads told me about it. Making love to the camera no doubt. I think thats the picture they wanted to use in the vanity fair article.

Put another way then. Forget about PBs. No session can give you the same benefit as an all out race.

To be fair I did say I'd give it everything on the day, Im just not going to taper or alter my training week in anyway to accomodate the race.

The goal is the marathon so I wont be tapering or making any allowances for this race. Having said that I will give it everything on the day, so who knows.

Look I know one of your pet hates is when people say they're using races as training sessions, it comes across as excuses before a mile is even run in anger, a way to cop out or take the pressure off themselves. And I agree with you there, I hate excuses. But Sometimes theres a bigger goal in sight and other build up races becomes a means to an end.

Got my race number today, in the 9000's. Does that mean that there is 9000 plus entered for the race? Surely that would be too many for the Phoenix Park. The fast ones at the front would have me lapped before I even passed the start line :)

I asked on the DCM Facebook page and they have just replied, there are over 6800 entries for this race.

I passed the 10 mile mark in the Midlands half marathon last week at 73.12 so hoping to knock 13 seconds off that and beat last years time of 75.58 which I paced myself badly in

If you want, give me a shout if you want to do that 18 miler in the park with a bit of company, I'm dreading the run myself. You are gonna have to go verrrrry slowly though.

    Yup sure am!

Cheers for the offer of company for the 18m, I'm sure yet cause I'm staying with friends in Enniskerry so might end up doing the run around there if they've something planned for Sunday lunchtime.

got my number in post the other day. its the first race Ive done that will start with waves. Am I correct in saying that you just go into whatever wave you are looking to finish the run in, in my case wave two, 90 mins.

Yeah start up the front of Wave two and then enjoy passing all of the people who started in Wave 1 but should really have begun in Wave 3.

    Hi all,

I've entered myself in this race and it's my first ten mile. I've mainly be doing 5/6 mile runs of late and I'm clocking about 42 mins for 5 miles, I did the great Ireland in 53 mins. From your experience do you think it would be realistic to be looking to finish this one in or around 90 minutes?

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks

Seems like a reasonable target, based on your current running patterns. Just make sure you pace it right, and don't go too fast over the early miles.

Am hoping for sub 80- (McMillan gives me 76.19 after the 5 miler:eek:) but I don't reckon I have the endurance in my legs or lungs for that. I'll probably go out at 7.45 pace and see how it goes.

I asked on the DCM Facebook page and they have just replied, there are over 6800 entries for this race.

With this number of people running, just wondering where's the best place to park that morning? I assume the Park itself will be packed.

Could you do a park-and-ride job?
Ashtown train station isn't far away. It's on the Maynooth line.
Heuston Station has parking and there is a shuttle bus to the start area.
Luas is an option too, meeting the same shuttle near Heuston.

Would there be any parking towards the very north west end of Chesterfield avenue - next to the Castleknock gate?

If i were to take public transport from city centre is there anywhere you can leave a bag that can be picked up at the finish line?

From the Race Series page (and your race pack instructions):
Facilities: Toilets and a baggage area will be provided close to start/finish area.

There might be, though the gates may close early enough. As a backup you could park (considerately) in an estate just outside the Castleknock Gates e.g. Parkview.

Yes, there's a bag drop near the start/finish area. The bag drop is divided into numbered areas 1-500, etc, you go to the area that matches your race number and they give you a bag with your number on it to leave your stuff in. There are some people there, in theory making sure that at the end people only take bags that match their race number, but as usual you shouldn't leave anything there that you would really miss, just in case.
