Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is blowing my mind! How the hell did you achieve that perspective! Your subject matter perfectly suits this warped point of view, and the chap in the photo looking a bit off balanced kind of represents the position of the viewer in some ways! Great stuff, well impressed!

I used a Sigma 10-20 from a low perspective (kneeling - and I'm not tall anyway).

As it was a fairly bland sky coulour was out. So I created 3 raw images from one exposure using Camera Raw (+1, 0 and -1 stop).

I then tonemapped the resulting 3 images in Photomatix Pro 4.

Back into Camera Raw and I sharpened to give a gritty feel and then reduced nosie (photomatix adds too much noise). I then applied lens correction to reduce chromatic abhoration on the edges, especially against the boy silhouetted against the sky

Then in CS5 I adjusted levels and curves, cloned out the boy's parents who were stood to his left against the trees taking his picture.

The trouble with a super-wide is that you get a huge depth of field so I selected part of the background (v tedious) and applied a lens blur.

A slight crop and that was it.

    Adrian

I won't pretend to follow most of that - but congrats on a truly wonderful image.

It has an apocalyptic feel which is juxtaposed with an almost childlike, Alice in Wonderland quality. Very unsettling but totally compelling - would have made a great Pink Flyod album cover!

Could not help but notice the similarity in sky/tone between Adrian's shot and Dougl's right below it!

    so

hope I'm not annoying anyone or breaking copyright??

Killeshandra Convent, Cavan. Fascinating spot, once home to 250+ missionary nuns. Closed since 1985. My mother worked there as a child, she said it was like a castle, perfectly painted, beautiful rich decor inside. I took a series of photos, some of which I've already posted, in which I attempt in some way try to portray the elegance and richness of the spaces despite 25 of ruin, as well as being images of decay and abandonment.
