My area on the NGB map has recently turned yellow meaning NGB Enabled. How long does it usually take to be migrated to NGB?

    all the best,
    john

Best bet is to ask the Eircom rep in their forum on boards.

Considering that site still has (Dec - March), (Apr - June) listed as valid options, it's clearly not that accurate.

Thanks, I rang eircom this morning and they said that they would put the order through for me and I should be migrated tomorrow. But I was told that I would be upgraded to 12mb!!! As I am on the 7mb package I thought that I would be upgraded to 24mb. But maybe the exchange Im on cant handle 24mb.

I think my line stats are ok
    Line State	Up
    Modulation	DMT
    Data Path	Interleave

     	                             Downstream Upstream
Max Allowed Speed (kbps)	7168 384
    SN Margin (dB) 12.00 31.00
    Line Attenuation (dB) 22.50 12.00
    CRC Errors	0	0

Can somebody check this out for me. Can my exchange handle the up to 24mb package?

    Hi John,

Your telephone line has a maximum bandwidth capability of 12MB so that is the best bossible speed that you would be available on the line to your address.

    Thanks, Mark

Is that because the exchange is not ADSL2+ ?

If the exchange was ADSL2+ I would be expecting 16-17mb.

    Am I right?

    Hi John,

Any eircom customer, where the line qualifys for between 9MB - 24MB who wish to upgrade to the "up to 24Mb NGB Unlimate" the order will be issued for the customer and as per broadband terms and conditions the broaband is subject to line limitations.

    Thanks, Mark

    Thanks Mark,

In this case is the "line limitation" because the exchange is not ADSL2+?

    all the best,
    John

    Hi Jhn,

The exchange has to be ADSL2 enabled before the "up to 24MB turbo" or "up to 24MB NGB Ultimate" Is offered as an option at an exchange.

    Thanks, Mark

I thought eircom migrated everyone in the area at the one time?
Also do you have to commit to a 12 month contract when upgraded?

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭_John C

So Ill only get 12mb because my Line Attenuation is 22.5db and my SN Margin is 12db.

    That doesnt seem right???????

    @Panga
I did not commit to a 12 month contract when I phoned them this morning.

    Hi Pangea,

We do try and insure the broadband migratation occurs at the one time at any given exchange. However as this may take a few weeks, customer can also request to be migrated directly.

If the customer just migrates to the corresponding NGB package without changing the call package / bundle there is no new 12 month contract.

However if the customer is due to be migrated to a certain package and wants to select a different NGB product or wants to change their existing bundle package a new 12 month contract (and possible broadband downgrade fee will be applicable)

    Thanks, Mark

It must be that my exchange is ADSL2 and not ADSL2+.

Is there any plan to upgrade my exchange to ADSL2+ sometime in the future?

    all the best,
    John

    Thanks, Mark

Thank you Mark, at least I know now why my line can only handle 12mb. :)

Mark my area is on the NGB enabled map too, Could you migrate my broadband or do I have to ring up?

    Got the upgrade this morning.
    Line State	Up
    Modulation	ADSL2+
    Data Path	Interleave

                               Downstream Upstream

Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 12284 668

    SN Margin (dB) 14.50 21.80

    Line Attenuation (dB) 23.80 11.80

Im surprised that Modulation is reported as "ADSL2+" and yet Im only synching at 12mb with those line stats.

    Hi John,

Apologies, there is no indication as to when the exchange wil be ADSL2+ enabled as yet.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Thanks, Mark

Thats fine Mark thanks for your help. So can you confirm that the exchange is ADSL2 and not ADSL2+ ?

My modem is reporting "ADSL2+" for some reason!!!

    all the best,
    John

    Hi John.

The modem is used for the 24MB product so it is ADSL2+ ready. however the speed limitations are down to the network line capabilities which limits your broadband speed capability to a maximum possible 12MB.

    Thanks, Mark

No problem thanks, I sent you on the phone number, I wonder what speed is my line capable of getting? not very much I imagine. Getting around 2.5mb at the moment.

    Hi Pangea,

The Killybegs exchange in Donegal is NGB enabled and is in the process of being migrated over.

If you want to issue the order now, the quickest way is to issue the order through:

    http://www.nextgenerationbroadband.ie

    Or

By calling broadband sales on 1800 503 303.

    Thanks, Mark

Thanks, I clicked on the upgrade option, it says that "A 12 month contract applies to broadband upgrades"
I take it if I leave it to Eircom to upgrade it I wont be entered into a contract but If I do it manually I have to enter a 12 month contract.

    Hi Pangea,

If you go for the NGB regular no new contract will apply, Unless: you chose to add a call package or bundle.

If you chose the NGB basic a new 12 month contract will apply as it is seen as a change to your package not a standard migration.

However if you go to the NGB regular, the online system brings up the contract but I can confirm the online order team will insure this is not applied to your account.

    Thanks, Mark
