Brilliant, I will have to get onto to him.

Isnt he the one that was involved in a fender bender with a cow?

Just on this. Does the magnet need to be right under the wheel rim on its spoke to give the right reading?
Or does it matter if it is a little bit further down.

It shouldn't really matter as it's simply counting revolutions. Although the closer to the rim the magnet is, the greater the distance to the pick-up which might have some implication depending on the strength of the magnet.

First day of unemployment after being made redundant after 20 years yesterday.

Decided Seskin Hill was to be my pain aftdr two failures in March. Steely determination with some anger mixed in get me up it this time which meant alot to me.

Followed road back to Clonmel via Rathgormack with a headwind to annoy me further. Road home is lumpy as well so was pretty happy to get 58km on at avg 27.8km/h.

All set for The Comeragh Tour Sunday week now with Mabon fallls & Seskin holding no fears of failure.

I got redundanxy last July after 14 years in the same place. Long story, but I had to push for it, was on the union side of things, and Im telling you know it was the best thing that happened to me. Havent looked back.
Didnt miss the place for a second, maybe miss a few of my colleagues but thats it.
Onwards and upwards mate. Enjoy some time off to recharge and clear the head. Life's too short to jump straight back into stress.
And cycling or whatever your posion is can only help. So long as its not drink or drugs!!
    All the best.

Depends on a lot of different factors, but over short distances GPS speed can be very inaccurate. Don't know the location, but common interference factors are trees or being adjacent to a wall or cliff edge. The accuracy depends on the number of satellites the GPS can 'see' in clear view overhead, whether it is looking at them directly or taking in signals bounced off other objects, and whether some satellites are coming in and out of view. Properly calibrated wheel magnet will give far more accurate speed measurement over short distance.

Since Ive switched to the secondhand garmin edge 200 I bought, from a cateye non gps, Ive noticed speeds going up hills a lot slower reading while moving, but the times are the same or better as Id have got on the cateye. This had me thinking it was either slow to read a time and hence theres a bit of a delay, or its just not as accurate at slow speeds for some reason.
No big deal, but nice to see I wasnt losing my mind!
    Or just getting worse!

I went out for my first proper spin yesterday after swapping to a compact from a standard crankset earlier in the week. Wanted to see if the lower gears would make a difference, so I decided to tackle some hills I'm familiar with. Did Rathfarnham, out to the Blue church, up to Johnny Foxes, on to the viewing point and home. Set loads of PBs!.......on the descents (????)

My PB on the climb from the church to Johnny's as stood since September 2014, and I'm 99% the lowest gear I had at the time was 42/25. Yesterday, with a 34/28, I was 45 seconds slower. Baffled isn't the word....

Have you factored in the wind today vs. the wind on your PB? You would have had a headwind today.........

    Multiple factors affect each ride.

Knocklyon - Sally Gap - Ballinastoe today and back - roughly 50km. Had originally planned on stopping at the gap but decided to continue onto Lough Tay, having not been there almost 2 years.

I can sum today´s cycle up in one sentence -
Ireland, where you can go for a cycle and get a tan in the morning and pneumonia in the afternoon!

    Why wait that long?

I had to drive to Thurles today.
On the spin down I used (at various stages):

    Sunglasses,
    A/C
    Wipers
    Heater
Fog Lights (as rain was so heavy)

Got caught in a shower at Lough Tay earlier. It was more of a light drizzle so managed to not get too soaked but still proof that you can always rely on Ireland's weather to suddenly ruin a good outdoor trip. :P

Weather changes here very quickly - couple of hours will get all four seasons.

You don't need to wait until afternoon!

Did the 80km St James sportive today. My first time doing both the Sally and Wicklow gaps. Tough going once the climbing started and at almost 1000m climbing in an 80k spin it was a tough but enjoyable day in the saddle. :)

Had the same experience today on my 100k spin. First 50k in beautiful sunny weather and last 50k in pouring rain with hail and gusty winds.

43kms today. First time doing the Full Wall. Very tough but I didn't stop so happy with that!

Jeepers my arms and legs got roasted today, sunburn is also starting to show up on the face. Ironic that I didn't get it 2 weeks ago during a 60km spin to Howth, and it was pure sun that day.

114km today with three lads from the club. Very slow as one of the lads only back on the bike a week. Spent long times in front and spun a hard gear on the hills to keep it interesting.

Had a pretty close punishment pass coming into Charleville, caught up with guy at junction and tapped on passenger window and told him that was too close- turned out to be a guy I know pretty well, he sped off when he saw me ðŸ˜႒.

Finally got on the road bike I bought on black Friday last year from CRC having fitted my Brooks saddle (thanks to whoever suggested it back then)
Did a spin around the Phoenix park today enjoying the sunshine followed by hailstones and rain drops the size of marbles.
Not quiet the 100km + spins you guys do but happy to start.:)
Just need to build up my confidence and speed, always had hybrids and tourers.

Up to kippure via stocking lane, back via glencree/kilmolin/glencullen/barnaculia. Messing around with strava at work on fri, saw there was a segment from start of stocking lane to top of kippure that i never attempted. Set myself a goal of doing it in 1:15:00. My time today?

60k, flat spin @26kph. Bailed on the last 10k as was passing the house and was just to cold to do 10k out and 10k back.

Had sun, got sun burned (epic tan lines now), cold wind, rain, sleet and more rain.
Passed a group of Naas CC cyclists who were cleverly sheltering from the elements on the N81. Smart people.

You can't bring the proper gear in this weather; you are either overheating or on the verge of hypothermia.

    80km, 27.55kph, 738 metre elevation.

Probably the toughest cycle I've done, did 3 laps of Howth. First 2 times I felt good but the third time was the beginning of an incredible suffer for the final 30km home.... got passed by 7/8 people the third time going up

Couch for the rest of the day for me now!

Decided to do a very similar spin today to last weekend, but add a little altitude. Beautiful morning when I set out, not a cloud to be seen.
Headed up Bohernabreena and then down by the Reservoir for a crack at Cunard. I hadn't been up it properly in a while and genuinely forgot just how tough the first km is. Really regretted having that latte at the filling station. Got a bad stitch about halfway up, then the click of horror when I tried to shift into a lower gear and I was already as low as I could go. The flat section couldn't come soon enough.

I continued on down to Laragh, had a toilet break and then up the Wicklow Gap. I said last week that I was surprised how easy it seemed so this week I decided to give it some Welly. It wasn't as easy as I thought this time. I knocked 3 minutes off my time but suffered later on for it. Headed up Turlough Hill today to get a bit more altitude and really enjoyed the views up there but on the way back down the rain started and of course I hadn't bothered to bring a jacket. Well I got lashed on for most of the descent to the Valleymount turn and it wasn't friendly warm rain. Then the legs started to burn and my energy began to wane a bit so I was glad to get a bit of a tailwind for the last few km from Blessington back to Tallaght.

    105.5 km with 1467m climbing in 4:14 @ 24.9kmh

Had hoped to do the Cut challenge today as a few club members were doing it but was on GAA duty.
Headed out for a sole spin about 1pm fancied a bit of climbing [which is very odd for me] so headed for the swan and wolfhill in Laois, got pissed on within 30 mins, then the sun came out and it was really lovely, last hour I was hit with 3 showers in a row which had everything from mad winds, hail to thunder and lightning, roads were flooded and I ended up getting a puncture from a flooded pothole,i made that dreaded phone call to seek a collection :) 13k from home instead of fixing puncture as I was freezing at this stage, weird day on the bike but fun all the same.

Weather here (Zurich) isn't too bad and is supposed to turn for the worse tomorrow so as I'm on nights I thought I'd get out for a spin.
Only did 46km as I was a bit lost and didn't feel too energetic after the hour mark. Just looked at my Garmin (that won't upload on my old Mac anymore) and I'm at 218km for the week with a commute to work still to do. That's about double my usual so it's no wonder I'm tired (plus the hills here are slightly bigger than NCD!)

Royal Canal out to Kilcock and back. 60k. I was aiming to get back before the thunderstorms forecast for 2pm. They didn't materialise obviously. Should have gone for a long one.

Red hot club spin today which really tested me, emptied pretty quickly on the first climb which was worrying but a little food stop followed quickly so i was able to feed and regroup mentally.

Group went hard after that and began to splinter which as we were pretty local tje lads were ok with. Fought really hard to get back on to the front group and was able to stay on for the rest of the trip home.

Back on Clonmel i aent after a pb on the bypass which i missed by two seconds after flooring the body at speeds of 45m avg for 1.6km to make it.

102km at average of 32.5km/h and been dead on the couch since!!!!!
