want to sell my house privatly but dont know how to go about it. do i need a solicitor now or when the sale is set up. ive heard about some survay to be done on the house before it can be sold, anyone know anything about that. Ta

You will need to provide a BER certificate. Any other surveys are for the purchaser to do. Get a check list from your solicitor, which you must have.
