Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, i'm looking to get a cheap laptop to record my wireless cctv system on. It doesn't need to be anything sophisticated or up to date, just have a large memory (preferably 1tb) and a working screen to view it on.
Where would i purchase such a device?

Buy any laptop and then use external disks over USB or esata.

The system seems to only want to record onto the internal HDD of the laptop i have it set up on at the moment.

i,ve never seen any laptop, that has more than 350gb, i presume you could get the drive upgraded by a pc tech specialist,Get a laptop that has windows 7 os on dvd ,,many models come with a restore disk,or a restore operating system, reinstall windows, option from the internal harddrive. Its a good idea to back up all windows device drivers to 2 separate cdrs, before you change the drive, as it can be a nightmare to find, download device drivers, unless you buy a dell laptop.theres probably a program that,ll automaticlly copy certain video files at a certain time to an external usb drive every day ,if you can leave the external drive powered up .
1000gig external drives are around 80 euro in pcworld, maplins.Laptop repair, upgrade stores would put in a larger drive, its alot easier if you have a windows os install disk.

i had a toshiba laptop that had 2 sata hard drive bays ,but thats very unusual,it makes it easy to upgrade drives.ie just put the 1tb drive in bay no 2, windows is in drive c, bay no1.

Drop a 1tb or 2tb drive onto the laptop and map the storage folder location to the new drive.

Or find the reg entry or setting in the program that defines the storage folder.

    Either, or.

use the mklink in windows to map the external drive to the folder the app saves it's files in.
Volume mount points and all that

other wise use a clonezilla CD to mirror the internal disk to an external one and then swap them

record the data onto the laptop

then move (or backup) the data onto external harddrives

Heres a laptop with a big hdd at a very good price

    External harddrives are very cheap
