Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi everyone,

I love funny looking roadsigns, especially ones that have been modified by people. Was wondering if anybody else likes taking pictures of them? Ok I'll start this off with this piece of artwork:

colour me pedantic, but that's not a road sign. it's a sea sign.

My first thread ever, and this is the first response i get? :)
Well I would change the title to "road signs, sea signs, etc- basically all kinds of signs" for you, but unfortunately I can't edit it.

I actually find signage in general pretty interesting as a form of communication and if you look beyond the primary function of the sign you can often get an interesting insight into the area or location of the sign.

I've been mucking about with a half assed project on this for a while.

I loved seeing this at a t-junction... Go 6km left and you still be in the middle of nowhere.

    Pedantification IS our watchword ...

Is this the same one as yours ?

For this amount of over-signage I reckon something awful must have happened to poor character. Probably repeatedly.

And for distinctiveness sakes, the minimum walking speed on DL pier. The grannies and toddlers are only allowed on the bottom deck.

I love signs! I don't have enough pictures of them. Here's a quick snap I took of one in west Cork - seafood and steaks absolutely EVERYWHERE

    Ha, they're all great!

dairequinlan, I think mine was not that close to the water; it was taken on Inishmore.

    Love the bridge one!

Here's one I saw in Sweden:

I must pay more attention to signs, great project idea! :D

Heres one I took two weekends ago. I had two thoughts in my head when I took it:

The first, who needs to be told that often to turn right? If you are half way down a mountain road and you haven't figured things out yet, well you shouldn't be driving! :p

The second is, what happened to bend the pole in the foreground?

Sorry but that made me laugh too, and it shoudn't!

I love the fact that it has "crisis counselling" written across the top and a warning that jumping from the bridge is fatal. Isn't that the point? :p

Sorry to off-topic - you should check out the movie 'The Bridge' about suicides from the golden gate, very sad, but interesting.

By any chance do you think the reflective sign is there for drivers at night and it's obviously been hit before so needs to be there to stop people going over the cliff.

I like signs too, I like the funny ones but also just simple, interesting old ones.

this one a number of people will know, it's on the ferry to Valentia island, and a bit of a "duh" one :)

This one is just down the road from me, I'm on the look out for lime time, since I have passed same spot when there was a heap of lime right in front of it. That would make a better photo.
