my tuppence worth - Arthur's Day may be a slick marketing move by Diageo but the upside was Dublin City was hopping last night - a great atmosphere with lots of people out & about enjoying themselves.
As a nation we need more of this ..... :D

Was at StJames Gate last night and I have to say it was very dissappointing :(
I thought Paolo Nutini and the band that won the competition were really good but then we had yasmin and the saturdays who were awful IMO. We left for a while and went down the local pub where a lad was playing a guitar and singing which was really good.
The stereophonics were really good and I have to say getting to see them for €15 is great but it took 40mins between the saturdays and them starting for the set up.....
Overall I was surprised at the lack of occasion at the hop store. They were clearly filming the olympia and going between the two venues but it felt like they were alternating between the two with minimum 20 mins of nothing between bands ....if alternating i think they would be better showing the other venue on the big screens in between. From the highlights it looked like the olympia was really buzzing last night.
There was a clear split in the crowd i thought between those interested in rock and those interested in pop, if you look at the highlights of the saturdays everyone in front of the stage was just standing there waiting for the stereophonics to come on!
I think the idea of surprise acts is great but i think maybe grouping by genre would work better or something. Anyway thats just my tuppenceworth...i still dont understand how it could take 40 mins to set up for the stereophonics when the saturdays didnt even have instruments to be taken away??

I reckon the place to be is in a pub where the atmosphere is good anyway and the bands are a bonus! I thought it would be really special to be in james gate but there was just too much time hanging around waiting for things to start.
