I had a 2005 1.6l petrol which I bought new....very comfortable car, plenty of space on it..
Was only sorry that I didn't go for the 1.8l at the time as it's a pretty heavy car..
but overall a really excellent well specced car..

Insist on it being NCTed. Can be done up to 6 months in advance of due date first time, afaik.

    Not your ornery onager

    Thanks for the responses.

I was talking to a friend of a friend with a 2.0 tpec auto and we went through his real life and on board mpg and reckon he is getting a steady 30 mpg so would hope the 1.8 might get 31/32.

His 2006 is a very low 41k kilometres so can't really judge for longevity.

I didn't get a chance to drive the the friends primera last night but sat in it for a good 10 mins and while a bit smaller (especially the back of drivers seat to front of rear seat) than a VW Passat/Merc - E Class/Hyundai Sonata i reckon there's enough of them on the road most people must feel there of a good enough size. (I'm 6ft 4in)

Also the boot space is a little smaller than my old '97 e-class (450 litres compared to 485 on a passat), but being a hachback the pce is a little more flexible and cessible than a saloon boot entry.

Hi Noel, what are you avging to the gallon.

Guy near me has a 2.0 with 30 mpg avg, commuting into rathmines and sometimes bray from Knoclyon

As long as i can stay that side of 30 i could live with it.

I bought my 1.6l petrol for new in 2005..SVE model...
Did over 170K and never once had an issue with it so they're pretty reliable.

How's the 1.6 petrol engine in terms of power?

should be possible, 6mths only applies to 1st time NCTs which this car would fall into

Worth noting that the auto box is different in these.

AFAIK the 2 litre is a CVT box and the 1.8 uses a conventional auto box. I'd say the 1.8 would be slightly thirstier but it a lot depends on the driver.

Most of the torgue is at the high end so initial acceleration is slow (0-100kph=11.5secs)
It's a heavy car so ideally you'd want at least a 1.8 or 2.4l diesel.
I was sorry I didn't go for the 1.8 as it comes with cruise control etc as well.
    Petrol wise I was getting about 730km out of a tank..about 7.1l/100km.
That was a mix of motorway driving (120-140kph) and urban driving...say 50/50 split.
In mainly town driving which I did for the first year of it was around 8.4l/100km.

    "8.4l/100km"

That works out around 37 mpg, not bad.

I'm hoping to avg 32mpg from the 1.8 auto although my driving will be more city than m/way

Gonna try an have a look at it this weekend.

As it's almost a decade old model wise hence they seem to be really good value for money at the moment.

A good few dealers are coping on and seling at quite low prices

I was thinking of going an extra 2000eur and going for a new shape mondeo 1.6 manual petrol but really only wanna keep the costs down as the part iem taxi usage as any full/part time taxi driver will tell ye is not great at the minute.

The road tax cost is of no concern to me as taxi road tax is under 100 quid but my insurance is oround 1200-1400 fully comp, (waiting for the renewal, last year was 1380 with 5 yr NCB)

It's more a case of comfort (I'm 6 ft 4 in and then i need to leave a reasonable amount of leg room behind me) and reliability.

I'm also tempted by the Citreon C5 as both here and in the UK they seem to be good value and have a good reputation for comfort.

Miles are a bit higher but it's '08

Probably only get low 30's to the gallon from this and would worry about reliability but still tempting

    I bought her today,

Unfortunately no Service History or Sat Nav Disc but all seems to be in order.

I'll update the thread if anything shows up for it's first NCT but felt tight and averaged 35 mpg on main roads coming back and he hadn't reset the fuel consumption for the last 3 thousand kilometres and it was averaged at 29.9mpg....

Still driving it. Now have 230k kms, averages approx. 27mpg for night time taxi use.
