Pistol licence questions

Firstly how hard are they to licence realistically and whats available in terms of caliber?
Being a member of a proper range would also be helpful I'm assuming.
Having a multiple of toys already and security that has been previously inspected by the local FO will this have any bearing on a pistol app good or bad.

    Help much appreciated

Its a crap answer, but it really is dependant on your Super as to how hard the application will be. Some judge appications on their merits others have a pre-determined attitude, whioch requires alot of "begging" to get.

In terms of calibers. The only one available to you would be either a .22 caliber with a limit of 5 shots or an air pistol. Any other caliber or even a mag limit exceeding 5 shots is deemed a restricted firearm and no linceses are being given out for these.
Being a member of a proper range would also be helpful I'm assuming.

Its the only reason. No pistol (short firearm) linceses will be granted for any other purpose other than target shooting.
Having a multiple of toys already and security that has been previously inspected by the local FO will this have any bearing on a pistol app good or bad.

As an unrestricted firearm the only "cause for concern" would be the amount of firearms you own. So if a pistol caused you to have 4 unrestricted firearms then you are in the next level of security. If it means you only have three you are still within the second level of security.

Of course as security measures are minimum standards and the Super can impose any upgrades/extras he deems necessary it really is an open ended question.

Yep, that'd be 4. So the next level of security being safe fixed to internal wall with house alarm (ish??)
The super down here is fairly bang on tbh, being a memeber of a licenced pistol and rifle range would be a necessity as there not being issued for any other purpose as you said.
This is gonna take a bit of luck to get id say!:D

Level 2 also requires a safe bolted to a solid wall, but three now includes an alarm on the place were the firearms/safes are stored with a compliant lock on the outside of the door.
Each firearm shall be stored in a gun safe which complies with BS 7558 and which shall be securely fixed to a solid structure. The place in which the firearms are stored shall have an alarm fitted and the external doors to the place shall be fitted with locks which comply with BS 3621.

Luck is never a bad thing, but honestly if you are a member of an authorised range, and your reason is valid then there is no reason why you couldn't get one.

once you have a valid reason to have one ie target shooting in a club
the pistol is on the list
    you have all security requirements
