    Lads, and lassies.

Anyone know how long the training will be and what we will have to do? All I know for sure is that we have to do an induction course.. Slightly vague....

Two weeks in duration. Driving and hse induction I'd pay etc and familiarizing ourselves with the buses.

Have you got your occ health clearance?????

I am a fair bit away from that yet. Id presume though if you have done your medical and got the call you have passed your medical.

Still waiting on Occ Health clearance before contracts will be issued. The delay is cos this is a new post and they don't know what medical we need to do. In the end we'll end up doing the paramedic medical.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2012/0527/breaking10.html

7 or 8 (possibly 9) Ambulances needed at this tragic event. Very sad news. Happened in Bailieborough in Cavan. In relation to response times/resources etc, would be interesting to know where the Ambulances came from, how long it took them, were any involved or about to carry out pts work before they got the call?

There are were four Red Cross Ambulances covering the event, with at least one paramedic crew member.

It's within about 15 minutes of Virginia ambulance station (1 crew), 25 mins from Cavan (1-2 crews) and Castleblaney (1 crew and possibly a PTS crew) and Ardee (1 crew) and 45 from Dundalk, Navan and Monaghan (2 crews each). The road to Cavan General from the location is abysmal, so would not have facilitated a crew doing a quick drop and return.

My thoughts are with the crews involved and the families of the deceased.

Real sad, especially when you consider the Helicopter service being so near to launching, this would have been the perfect situation to call out for them.

    This too shall pass.

All I will say is that this scene was handled extremely efficiently by all services, and we were not waiting very long on any resources.

Well done to all the services involved.

Let's just give a thought to all those affected by this horrible tragedy.

I was due to start my EMT course May 2011, it was cancelled due to lack of numbers and moved forward to Oct 2011 with exams early 2012. When i heard of the ICO positions i was gutted thinking id missed a good chance, ive just read this entire thread and i dont know if that was a blessing in disguise. Id have gone nuts at the waiting! Open to correction but the jobs were supposed to be in operation feb 12 and still lads waiting to be called? I got my EMT and have been looking for jobs since. Lately been looking at voluntaries so to keep / build skills. But my fulltime job means i work weekends and from what im told the voluntaries arent really interested if you can only do some weekdays. Ive sent emails out anyway, just waiting on replies.
Little bit of a rant there so im sorry for that :)

Will be following this thread and forum with great interest. If anyone has any tips id gladly accept them

Well, when people are out of work, like myself, a little bit of waiting won't matter. These posts ARE happening. We have our start date, so there is no problem.
As regards the voluntaries, there's bound to be one of them in a position to accept you. Try St. John Ambulance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 149 ✭✭Thepredator

Id be amazed if a vol turned away someone just because they are not available weekends. In fact if they did, their probably not worth joining. I'd much rather be on a panel and waiting for the call than waiting for a recruitment campaign to begin. Best of luck to all those starting in July.

NAS are probably using the first patch as a pilot to iron out any problems. This is all new to them as well.

Ten people starting on the second of July. I think people are hoping that they'll be jobs nearer home. Someone told me that the last person to take up one of the jobs was number 23 don't know how true that was

How are only 10 starting? 16 jobs were available and people on the panel were alerted to the jobs so the highest 16 that expressed an interest were given them. The person that was 23 was probably the next in line if a good few before him didn't express an interest! Open for correction though.....

Ya spot on. Loads of people are holding out for jobs closer to home but don't realize there going to lose any seniority they had.

Dublin jobs are not starting yet. Cork and Galway first to go live

Being a while since I looked at it but as far as I remember you only lose seniority if your made a formal job ofter and refuse, not a job alert. Open to correction on it.

Ya that's with regard to the panel I'm talkin about the job themselves. If for eg number 20 got one of the ten jobs that are starting next month then he would be more senior than number 1 on the panel who might start a month later. This is all good until people go for lookin for transfers etc. This is where seniority comes into it

O right, depends on personal circumstances. No point someone in Letterkenny taking a job in Cork while leaving there partner and kids at home in the hope they might get a transfer closer to home someday.

Ya it really depends on your circumstances. You just have Jo weigh it up and see is it worth it or not

I don't know where people are getting their information but it is WRONG.

I was in the 30's on the panel and have been offered a Dublin post! And have accepted.

Ya considering there was only 16 posts offered that means at least 15 people have not taken a place and are waiting for other locations to come up

I said initially that i wouldnt move outside Leinster but i think i'll bite the bullet and go for these. No Kids or mortgage so I'll take the chance and you can always look for a transfer when possible.

What we have been told from management is they were approved for 22 positions. I know we are getting 2 icv wagons starting in September but how many staff that will take is unknown due to nobody knows what's going to happen with the control staff only time will tell.

Lads anyone that is seriously considering career in nas ye should go for these unless he have something holding ye back i.e family or mortgage. When thingi come up closer to home ye be the most senior of staff and will have first dibs on transfers. I've been told that directly from the powers that be. There's ten lads startin in south and west in a weeks time I know one lad who is late teens on the panel that is startin next week but he now has more seniority than no 1 for eg if no 1 decided to wait on for closer than home. Again its up to your individual position at home but I'd reckon ye'd be mad not to go for it on the basis for waiting for something nearer home
