Ya but what's all this about the hse not taking people on until they've redeployed the people that are already in the system

adam88, you appear to be getting yourself too wound up regarding this panel and HSE staff being redeployed, it will happen but it takes time. The EMC and Trainee Paramedic panels are taking two years to get through, that's just how it rolls. Some AP students were waiting nearly four years to get their place on the course!
The ICV positions were offered out to current EMT grade staff, then the time frame was extended to clarify concerns. Remember too that there is already a Patient Transport Service within the NAS, those staff have to be included in any changes.
There are still many programmes being put together within the NAS, Advanced Paramedic training and deployment, of which there is a panel, along with one class who've just finished and awaiting the go ahead to practice, and another AP class who are currently in training. Then there's the next class of AP students due to start next month. The new Control and Command centre in Dublin, the remaining people on the trainee paramedic panel, the trainees paramedics doing their induction week post exam, who will be operational from next week, the EMC panel and the ICV panel. There's also internal promotion panels. These all cost vast sums of money and planning, it doesn't happen overnight.
For those of you who made the ICV panel, be thankful because you've made it this far and won't have to go through that process again, but be patient, (pardon the pun) the ICV panel is not the only panel awaiting the call-up.

Hse South = Kerry, Cork, South Tipp, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny and Carlow! So anywhere in these counties!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,610 ✭✭✭adam88

I think they don't really know where there going to be placed but I think that hse south relates to cork and Kerry so be prepared for deployment within any of those areas . I think anyway

Are you high up on the panel????

From what I've heard the first post in the south are supposed to be in mallow and bantry.

I'm in top 5 and definetly not going down, there's also the possibility that these may be the only positions for a while, so its up to you! Iv also heard that they will be in cork.

So once you commit your stuck there!

That's a very loose statement to make. The HSE has a national transfer policy in place. You may be in a particular area for a period of time but you won't be STUCK there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 121 ✭✭STANDCLEAR!!!

Well you know bang bang, I have been speaking to many paramedics and the exact words they have used is STUCK!

When they have to travel from one end of the country to another to do a shift with no view of a transfer in sight. And no doubt you probably know similar people.

Only last week a number of recently qualified paramedics transferred back to their original areas of choice and that only took a few months. So you're not stuck anywhere.

Well happy days! The paras that I was chatting to hadn't that good of a story.

So if I went to cork and a position in my region came up how would I transfer and how long would it take to get transferred?

The ICV should become countrywide very soon, especially if AP and paramedic deployment has to run and run smoothly as in no emergency ambulances doing transfers.
Paramedics are getting their transfers, I know quite a few who made their way back closer to home etc, and each of them were complete in under a year.

Remember the sooner you take your position up the higher place you'll be in regarding service when it comes to granting transfers. Each person has different circumstances, i.e. family, or other commitments and it may not suit to take the opportunity to work somewhere different in the country. If it were me and I wasn't married, children or other commitments then I would jump at the chance.
Regarding how to apply for the transfer, ask your designated officer in charge and they will go through the process with you.

Yep well I'd love to head somewhere different but I have the family to think about too. So I'm holding out for a bit.

I hope your right about the nationwide roll out happening soon, I was told there may not be that many positions for a while, but I know to take that with a pinch of salt!

There's so much happening now within the ambulance service and it all costs a huge amount in finance, so panels and other areas are taking time to fall into place.
It's understandable not moving if you have a young family too.

Stay positive, the best of luck.

Well lads. A few things here are certain obv the hse has taken care of the union issues and that other private amb company has not succeeded in putting a stop to things, also as mentioned here before the hse has decided it best not to allow redeployment into this position from other areas of the hse.

We know for certain that 12 vehicles hah been kitted out for icv's those are not going to be let hang around while the emergency system is under such pressure. Remember again lads that 5 ico's could hardly crew one vehicle never mind 12

I'd believe that it might take a few months but that the full complement of vehicles will be active. But hey I'm only a civilian. I'm sure others might have other views .

Standclear if you read the bottom of the email you got it deals with this point exactly and that is once you accept a position you are removed from the panel and will not be notified of any further positions. I think that means that the rest of the panel will have Dibs on positions before you can apply for them which will mean your position will then be vacant.

As for the transfer policy I think that's basically left to yourself. If you know someone in your home turf that wants to go to where your based then your elected ye just organise it between ye're selves so long management are okay with it. From what I'm hearing they won't make positions available just to faciliate you.

But remember your within the top 5 and after these posts are filled you'll prob be number 1 or 2 so you'll have any Dibs on location near you. You just have to weight up your options

Of course you are removed from the panel if you take up a position, that is how panels work, and as I've pointed out before, as soon as you take up your position you are then employed and your service starts from that date. This service start date then gives you seniority in service when other positions of the same grade are advertised. So if you take a position in Cork for example, and would like to work in Sligo, when positions become available in Sligo you then have service and can request a transfer to those positions, you will have senior service over anybody who started after your start date.

adam88 you are also incorrect in saying that the transfer policy is "left to yourself", the transfer policy is a national agreed document, it's not simply something you arrange between another staff member and yourself. You are either being misled by someone or are just drawing your own conclusions.

I know theres an agreed standart there but from what I have heard is that only lip service is paid to it.

I understand what your saying about the Senority etc but if that was the case what would happen is that I could go to the south one month once Galway comes up move there and mean they'd have to fill the gap I left and keep doing this over and over again. What our emails clearly state is that you are removed from the panel and will not be notified of further positions. How did would a person know if a position has arisen. I may be wrong but I doubt there going to contact me a month after starting in one area seeing would I like to move and keep going and going like that.

You are removed from the panel and you will not be contacted regarding new employment because you will already be employed once you've taken a position, that's what the email refers to.

Regarding one person moving from one position to another and their spot requiring filling over and over, that happens every month throughout the various regions, people transfer to other locations and another moves into their vacant roster place, all of these moves are done on seniority of service, hence the date you start is when your service starts.

As for management contacting you when positions need filling in other areas, they will not contact you personally, that is up to you to keep your eye on the notice boards, that is where the advertisements for vacant positions are posted.
