Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bike Build

    Hi,
I'm thinking of building a winter training bike over the next few months. I have a 15 year old nephew who I would like to get into cycling and he's the same height as me and I have a few friends that would use the bike for a spin if they were around for the weekend. I have a few bits and pieces like brakes and wheels lying around the garage so I'm thinking of buying a cheap frame to start adding the bits to gradually. I'll keep an eye on boards and adverts for the groupset parts and any finishing kit I need.
Something like this Ribble winter bike with the add-on carbon fork for around €170 might be worth a look.

Is this a good frame? Is there any good websites with offers on basic frames?

    This is prettier although pricier:

    or from its sister company...

...however, there's a thread somewhere on here describing how someone built a super-super cheap bike from a €50 frame from CRC that turned out well. edit: found it

That Planet X is lovely and by buying the frame & fork seperately in their sale, it can be had for €284.
Planet X also have very good offers on bars, seatposts and stems.
I have a set of wheels, well the rear wheel needs a new rim. Is it possible to get a new rim fitted to a mavic CXP22 wheel. The hub is fine as the freehub body was recently replaced.
Then add a secondhand groupset for around €250.

Yes, it's called a "rim swap". It can be done quicker than a full wheel build. You just need to make sure the new rim has the same dimensions as the old, so that the spokes can be reused*.

    (* this may be controversial)

Not at all, rim swap keeping the old spokes is perfectly acceptable:)
