grand, i'll ask when im back in one, which will prob be soon,

whats the purpose of the band type where one part clips onto the window but the part that connects to the wall rotates? is it just to prevent the galvoband being knocked off before being fitted?

I don't think you're talking about galvoband at all? Galvoband is a galvanised band with small perforated square holes along its length, used for fixing pipes, trunking etc to walls etc. Sounds like you're referring to some kind of frame anchor?

    @ jack

yes, thats what i was told I had, it is to fix a window frame though (its what i thought they were called)
I have some straight fixed ones, i also have a window frame that has some attached that have a joint.

So where can I get a frame anchor?(which I thought were called galvoband)

@ buford, Thats not what I have, I'll take some pics though. Mine are flat galvanised plates about 15mm wide about 1-1.5mm thick and about 150mm long with some holes and slots, pressed into them and also projections which look to have been pressed into them during manufacture (presumably to fit the upvc frame) mine doesnt fit (I was given and am sure it was called galvoband for fitting a upvc window frame). One of the windows I have, has some on already but are slightly different in that they connect to the frame ok but the part that connects to the wall can be rotated, maybe its to allow fitting onto the frame before fitting but to prevent damage during transport??
Anyway Id'd like to get some so can fit the frames without having to drill through from the window side (also some parts of the windows have fixed panes, ie not an opening so cant drill from that part)

    if this makes sense

edit, hmm upload failed, says 503 service unavailable
I'll try again, not sure why it wont allow me to upload

Instead of screwing through the window you can screw the galvoband to the frame from the outside in, but you'd need to have the frame out of the ope for that.

The Windows are out, I wanted to find out where I could find more of the items I currently have but in a slightly different size to fit the upvc windows i got second hand for a shed, to fix the windows in place.

I'm not even sure if what I have (described above) is even galvoband

    This is what I have

edit image size was too big,
Anyway the newer item I was given seems too wide to fit the grooves

the older one on one of the windows can be rotated (shown at a slight angle)

Are these galvobands (builders providers to buy them??) and do they come in different sizes, the new ones I have seem to big to fit the frame

    @Jack
Thanks, I was told it was called galvoband, at least I know what to ask for, Im assuming I can get it in differing widths to fit different frame thicknesses? Mine seem to have the projections (the parts stamped to fit the window frame) to wide to fit the frame thickness,
So can I get that in a builder providers?

Sorry, don't check here every day. They are a specialist item I would think so I doubt your average builders providers would carry them, but I could be wrong. Otherwise I think a window fabricator would be your best bet.

ok, I was just checking to see if anyone replied,

Do you know of any place in particular (window fabricators that is) in the Dublin south or Dublin west area?
and will they sell me a few frame fixing straps?

I'll go over the northside if I have to, just I dont know anywhere that will do them, the closer I get to the sea the less well I know the place but I have gps :)

few edits (no problem going over the northside, just means I have to pay the toll :D)
