Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,
I used to do a fair bit of cycling as a teenager, even held a J1 licence for a year and took part in a handful of races. I had a raleigh (jeez the name of it escapes me now!!) anyway it weighed about 23kgs:eek: Back then the buzz words floating around were the likes of "Bio-pace", "GP-4s", "Dyna-tech" and the like.
However at the age of 19/20 I met 2 guys called Arthur Guinness and Jack Daniels, and they introduced me to a fella called John Player some time later so the cycling went out the window. Next came time to get a job and raise kids which is done, the cigs are well kicked too and the drink is sociable at most:P
So then I've picked myself up a sub 9kgs bike and some gear again and decided 1st and foremost it's time to get fit again. So I'm going to start off with 20-25km spins and hopefully partake in a few of those charity cycles over the summer season.
I remember when training the way it used to be done was to use a low gear so you'd have high pedal reps and low resistance, and the speed was kept low too. Is this still the best approach?
Any tips at all would be most welcome. I'm looking forward to checking back in here from time to time to get tips too.

Yep, high cadence and low gear but I dunno about the speed kept low. I pedal at between 85 and 100rpm normally.

If you can at all, start cycling to work. That way you get free kms in your legs even before you head out for a training session.
