West Cork & the Great War

Afternoon everyone! This is an appeal intended for anybody out there who is interested in working on or contributing to a project on the Great War & the involvement of men & women from West Cork. I've recently become a member of the Bandon War Memorial Committee & I hope to join the Cork branch of the Western Front Association shortly. For the past year or so I have been researching the backgrounds of mostly men from Bandon and its hinterland who took part in the conflict. As you will appreciate, it is easier to find out about the casualties than it is about the veterans who generally kept their heads down after independence. These men and women, who easily numbered in their hundreds, if not thousands, have been neglected. If any of you want to get together to discuss what we might do, please respond to this post. All suggestions are welcome. With the centenary of the opening of hostilities fast approaching we need to get cracking. Thanks!
