Hello, maybe this isn't the most relevant place to have this thread so mods feel free to move if needed. Anyway I'm currently studying Business in LYIT, going into my 3rd year where I expect that I'll specialise in Accountancy and I was just wondering where, if anywhere, I could apply for an summer job that might be relevant to what I'm studying, something along the lines of an internship, and also, what would standard practice be for applying. Has anyone done anything similar to this before? Would I expect to get paid or would I be expected to work free of charge considering that it could be argued that my payment comes in the form of experience and learning which will obviously stand me in good stead post graduation. Does anyone have any experience of this? Any answers are greatly appreciated, thanks

PS I'm from the falcarragh area but would be more than willng to travel to letterkenny, which is where I would presume most of the accountants would be based.

It may be a little late now to try to get a summer job but theres no harm in looking. Do what I did 11 years ago - send a letter and cv to every accountancy practice in the town and see who replies. Good luck:)

Thanks, Yeah I was thinking exactly that but even for future reference it's always something that will benefit me to know considering I have plenty of years ahead of me yet before I'm chartered or certified, or both as the case may be :). Did you get hired? What kind of work would be expected of you? I'm assuming it would be fairly basic stuff.

As other poster have said, email various companies and make sure you mention 'internship' if you're prepared to work for free. I did an internship last summer working for free although she gave me small money at end of a month when we have been very busy. It was the best thing I did because it opened so many doors for me this summer although I still hadn't got that 'proper job' but it doesn't bother me because I'm delighted to be in a position where I can work for various people gaining experience and contacts at same time  And I'm going into 4th year
