Help, think we have being paying double Gas/electric

    So we are in the house we are renting 18mth - Owners of property lived next door but moved out approx 6-7 wks ago.

    Just got in the latest bills for Airtricity & Flogas & they are 50% cheaper than they have ever been.. House names are the same, so we are of the opinion that we have been paying double up to now.

    Any advice?

    Who set up the accounts ie are the bills in your name/you gave first meter reading when you moved in or had the LL the accounts already set up?

    Have you given meter readings for each bill or are they estimated bills or a mix?

    Have you taken into account the time of year and that bills are normally alot cheaper at this time of year?

    If you set up the account with both companies they would know if they were supplying one or two houses so it's simple to check that with them. If you've been taking meter readings you should be able to check againist the bill for how much you used vs how much you were charged for.

    If it's a case that you think they've managed some sort of system were they were using your gas and power then get an electrican/handyman in to check though I doubt they did this unless they built both houses from scratch and even then it would be very difficult.
