Painting a chimney

    My chimney was painted years ago and now is flaking and weather beaten. I have removed all the old paint now and have it ready to be painted. Am wondering should I treat it first or anything and what's the best type of paint to use? Cheers....

    Use a top quality masonry paint - weathershield or similar...

    If the old paint was flaking i would give it a coat of stabiliser before you start painting it!

    It is used over plaster that has started to become chalky or flaky. It can also be used on new wall cappings to get a key before painting.

    i second using the stabilising solution.
    any hardware shop sell it.
