Tamudo scores for Rayo, delighted for them... but Villarreal are down :(

Great scenes in Vallecas! Granada stay up as well!

Villarreal B will be relegated too now, as they can't play in the same league. Shocking.

    Tamudo. Typical.

    Messi won the pichichi. Yay.

    Strange league -

91 points doesn't win you the league

41 points doesn't keep you up

58 points gets you into the Champions League

With the exception of West Ham going down in 2003 with 42 points, I don't think any of the above had ever happened in the Premiership

This is a proper trophy presentation

Haha, Villarreal C are also relegated. Terrible.

EDIT: No, they're not after all. All is well..

Seems a bit too staged for me. Much prefer the rawness for the presentation of the PL trophy today

Sweet Jesus, this is fairly overblown to say the least. Just lift the trophy ffs!

What went wrong at Villarreal lads? I remember them fighting it out at the business end of the Champions League not too long ago.

In the end, they're a tiny club. Were always going to stop overachieving sometime.

They've been a bit unlucky with injuries. Rossi has missed the whole season and Nilmar got injured around the same time. I also think Borja Valero and Senna missed chunks of the season too. This left their squad a little stretched, and they simply couldn't cope with the demand of playing in the CL and the League at the same time.

By Christmas I think they were bottom, or very near the bottom, and they sacked the manager. They built up a bit of momentum and a month ago you would have said they were safe. However Zaragoza have gone on a quite ridiculous run that has hauled them from certain relegation about six weeks ago to safety.

I don't like them, but you have to feel a bit for Villareal. They hadn't been in the relegation zone for a very long time, and dropped into it in the 90th minute. Falcao was offside too.

They remind me a bit of Sampdoria last season. From the euphoria of the Champions League (well, qualifiers in Samp's case) to relegation all in the same season. The strain that playing in Europe puts on a team can really impact their league performance. Don't be surprised if Udinese find themselves languishing in the bottom half of Serie A next season.

I'd have thought that'd be the case this season, esp considering the players they've lost(Sanchez, Inler).

Di Natale seemingly retiring is a massive loss.

Also, Villareal deserve to go down. They've been absolutely god awful. Heroic stuff from Zaragoza. Shame Gijon went down though, very likable club.

I meant to say above Raul Tamudo was offside for his goal, Falcao's was fine.

Yeah I'd have liked Sporting to stay up, but it was just too big an ask unfortunately.

Villareal have been pretty bad alright, but I still think they will rightly feel a bit unlucky on the injuries-front. To lose Rossi and Nilmar in such quick succession was a massive blow.

I know that B teams wont be promoted to the same divison their main team plays, but for example if Villareal B finished top of second divison and Villareal gets relegated from La Liga, will the B team gets promoted to La Liga? or B team will be moved to third division and main team to 2nd division?

Shame. I always liked Villareal. Hopefully they can bounce straight back. That is 2 consecutive relegations from Lotina as well.

Amazing that they can go from being the last team to displace Barca or Real from 2nd to relegation in the space of 4 years.

Looks like Depor are defo coming straight back up which is a good thing. Celta are there or there abouts as well.

Next year's relegation battle is going to be pretty intense. A lot of the more mediocre teams this season are going to be in trouble, because Depor and Celta are both better teams than plenty of La Liga teams, and have better structure, fanbase and are generally bigger clubs.

I think it could be between 10 teams or so, and expect it to be very close again, like this season.

Villareal have entertained over the years and were a breath of fresh air in the mid-to late '00s, but they were ultimately a team from a fishing village fully funded by a rich owner. Eventually they were always going to go back down.
