Gift Receipt question

I got a bracelet for my birthday, which turned out to be too small for me so I got the gift receipt from my friend to exchange it. When I went to the jewellers yesterday (a well know chain store), I saw a bracelet which I preferred so I exchanged the original bracelet for it. This bracelet was €29, the original €34. The sales assistant told me that the price of the original bracelet had gone up in the past week and that it was bought for €29. I was a bit suspicious about this but I had no way of proving it.

Is there anything I can do now? Can I check with another person in the shop about the price my friend paid or in a different branch? Or should I get the original receipt from my friend? (I don't care about the €5, I just don't like that my friend paid more than she had to and that the shop possibly lied to me about it).

    Any advice appreciated.

I would ask your friend how much she paid for it.

There is no real way of proving if they are lying to you other than check your friends receipt right?

Thanks, that's what I thought. Not sure if I'll bother though, it'll come across as really stingy (even though I'd give the €5 to her to use). Guess I'll just use it as a learning experience!

normally the gift receipt when scanned shows up the price paid for it, not the current selling price.
