Can a court suspend an access order in urgent circumstances so that the person it is served on is not breaking it when they dont comply with it?

Yes a court can suspend an access order - but if the order is suspended, there isn't an order to comply with. The order is not served when suspended.

Would this mean going back to court? Or would a trip into the district court office do the trick and explain why I broke the order and see what they say?
