Doesn't have the all-important e-ink screen. And why can't we buy it here yet?

It might make a good low-cost alternative to the iPad, but tbh I'm a bit baffled by the popularity of these things. I have never wanted a tablet pc, and making them cheaper isn't changing that.

Being really cheap, I wonder what it can do that my phone can't?

Another factor is size and durability. If I carry this while I'm cycling, will it fit into my bike bag, and arrive unbroken at the other end?

I'm sure it would be fine in the bike bag, so long as it's in a cover. Sure don't people carry babies on the back of their bikes, and they seem to arrive in one piece :pac:

Don't know that it does a whole lot more than a smartphone, but it's got a bigger screen, which makes all the difference.

Edit: It's wi-fi only, so in that respect it does less than a smartphone.

Hang on guys, nevermind this Fire lark, what about the other three new kindles. The super cheap/super light one, and the other two touch screen ones... all pretty funky.
Though, I imagine I'd miss the keyboard.

Slightly raging, well, depending on how good they are, I bought my mam a Kindle for Christmas when I bought my own last month, before the new models and price drops. Damn.
