Is Galway at night safe?

Just watching the story on RTE 1 about Manuela Riedo murder and got me thinking Is Galway City really as safe as some people make it out to be? I mean always hear of people getting bottled and fighting (Which of course happens everywhere) so is Galway Nightlife safer then most places in Ireland. Watching the documentary on…

Galway is a city, not a large one granted, but a city nonetheless, and you'll get the dangers you'd get in any other.

yes, it is relatively safe, but you need to have a certain degree of common sense - don't walk down dark areas by yourself, don't take dodgy shortcuts by yourself
