Lads I have a 6970 currently and just added the new crysis 2 patch for hi res and tess.....

Now im struggling to max out the new settings so am thinking to xfire with a 6950 to boost it up...

Now the question is: will i be better off in the pocket to add a 6950 to my 6970 or will 2x 6970`s give much better performance than the 6970/6950 combo?

Or will there be very little noticable differance between the 2 combinations...?

    Many thanks

There'd be a noticeable difference alright. You'd be pretty much just be running two 6950s. The difference between a 6950 and 6970 is - maybe 10%? So it could add up to a good bit depending on the game and how well the crossfire scales. If money was tight, you could overclock the 6950 to narrow the gap. It would be a good idea to get the 2GB version if you have a 2GB 6970.

Not a huge amount to be honest, I suppose you should check specific crysis high resolution tests.

    Thanks for the replie mate...
I think I will bite the bullet and get another 6970.

Would be good to see how well metro looks aswell with 2x 6970`s

Im going to need a new PSU aswell....Dosnt need to be modular...Would you have anything in mind? I will be shopping at HWVS...

Both cards will be over clocked and the I5 760 is Oc`ed to 4.2Ghz.
1x hdd and will be getting a ssd as soon as they have em sorted out..

So a psu to handle that lot of goodies is what I need...

    Thanks

An 850w PSU will be fine and have room to spare. The XFX 850W is a good PSU and about €85 on HWVS.

I think 750W-800W would be sufficient.

Cheapest would be the 750W XFX. €75

A good PSU although XFX are getting a lot of bad face over poor customer service and waranties lately.

    Next, the GS800 €84

Alright looking PSU, but the amazon looks better

    Amazon 800W €89

Solid PSU unless you don't like blue LEDs.

    Tx750 V2 €89

    850W XFX €84

The 850W XFX would give you a lot of room for upgrades and is the best value. It's definitely a decent PSU. If there's any immediate problems, you could talk to HWV but I'm not sure about long term.

4GB is more than enough for gaming. I have 8GB and I never ever use it all up. Only time I do is when I edit 10,000x10,000 images in GIMP. ;P

You probably won't see the benefit for a while in games, unless you like to game with several browsers and other stuff open. That said, RAM is very cheap at the moment and will probably go up in price again. Your call. If you get another 4gb, try to get RAM with the exact spec and voltages as your current RAM, or better yet get a 2x4gb 1.5v kit and sell what you have, cause using all 4 dimm slots can cause problems occasionally.

I`ll leave it off so.....As dear old mum used to say" let sleeping dogs lie"
