Getting my own Co Op

    Hi,

I'm currently working in a company in my hometown and they specialise in medical engineering. They have told me that if I am interested in doing my co op here then they'd be more than happy to have me. My co op is in January and basically my question is, Can I organise co op here even though I am doing an Arts degree?

Or does my co op have to be relevant to my course? It's just that I would assume that any experience in a work environment would be relevant but I don't know...

    Thanks :)

Well since you're doing Arts (Joint Honours I'm guessing?), you're gonna have plenty of leniency anyway.

Add to that the fact that the Co-Op office will just be glad for you to have some kind of job with things the way they are.

I'd be surprised if they had a problem with you working at your current place for Co-Op.

be very careful with the coop office, I got my own coop(relevent to my course), coop office got me a job(completely irrelevent to my course). No brainer which one I'm stuck with doing now .
Apparently If it's the other way around, that if you get your own co-op that has no relevence to your course then they will make a song and dance about it.
The most shambolic setup in UL in my opinion and my coop manager was an absolute utter ignorant bollox with no regard to what was obviously the better root for me.

I'm not a big fan of the co op office myself. I haven't had much dealings with them yet but the few emails that have been exchanged, they've been pretty rude to me to say the least. They always make me feel like I am asking them stupid questions! A lot of people say it's easier to organise your own co op but I don't know. I guess i'll see come September what they have in store for me

    Hi rockovello,

Got my own Co-op a few years ago. What I did was let them look for a job for me (and say nothing about my own searching). They got me 4 interviews, all accounting jobs (my degree had nothing to with accounting:mad:). Was waiting for reply from 2 of the ones I got myself so threw one and got a doctors note for the other to waste time.

They got me an interview for a large accounting firm which I did and some crappy position. The crappy job, accounting job and one I got myself(which related to my course) came back on the same day.

Told them I was taking the relevant job (paid better too :D). Got a song and dance about what a disgrace this is etc. Told them the goal of co-op is to do something relevant and that all they put my class forward for was accounting. So they might say that you have to take their job when it comes up but they just say that to cover themselves.
