Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Regardless of what happens in the second half Borell will have the DVD for them in the morning! Some pretty basic stuff going wrong esp choice of shot/pass, the Lisbon attack seem to be very comfortable with both feet. Wisdom only has one as judged by that "clearance".

Robinson coming off for Tom King as a half time sub. He's played well, tackled excellently but like the rest of the team, passing has been a little wayward.

Team needs to be more composed on the ball. Far too frantic to get a pass away rather than hold it and look for a better option. Sterling, if he stays on, is looking like a constant threat and Silva just needs to be able to pass it to someone other than his other foot.

Never seen one of our youth sides hoof the ball so much from the back. Passing has been poor with very little being built through midfield instead its just being fired out to the wings hoping Silva or Sterling can produce something.

In fairness two class goals from Sporting and they look very composed in possession.

I wonder could this competition end up being as embarrassing for young English players in comparison with their continental counterparts as senior international tournaments regularly are.

  • Registered Users Posts: 404 ✭✭seanwhite20

we were giving away possession cheaply there even jonjo shelvey gave a few bad passes. hopefully we'll be better in the second half. thought that run from morgan setting up suso was good. suso should have done better.impressed with sporting lisbon.

For a while I hope they do - show up the english mentality once and for all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Eh? Its a club competition, the number of English on the under age sides varies game to game. They have been working under Borells instruction for 2 years maximum.

I think the senior team show the world just how poor they really are when it comes up against technically better sides... but you could be right. Sporting already look miles better than Liverpool and even though they and Barça are the favorites for the tournament, it doesn't bode well when you see them hoofing and chasing Carra (and England) style

Without doing an actual head count I'd imagine 90% or more of the players playing for the English teams in it are English.

In this game there has been a bit too much long ball as well.

Although saying the above, it's not the players or fans who think they're the best in the world, unless they've a massive ego... its the press. They build them up so so much ahead of big games and tournaments, lauding them as the best and then turn on them when it goes wrong.

The sooner red top football writers are gone the better

Fcking hell... how haven't we scored yet?! Brilliant ball across field by Wisdom, looking forward to seeing him as a CB in a few years time

    I like Adorjan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,267 ✭✭✭opr

Yeah Adorjan been good since he came on. Ngoo has also given them much more trouble than Morgan. It helps no end that Shelvey has gone off as he was a complete passenger in the game.

    Wow that's some goal!!
I've never seen the youth side getting played off the pitch like they have tonight.
Hopefully they can learn from this.

3-0 is pretty harsh considering the second half performance, but 3 excellent goals.

Lisbon deserved the win but 3-0 seems a bit harsh on chances created.

    Plus points

Sterling, Ngoo, Adorjan, Morgan, Wisdom (in the second half, playing at RB took a while to get to grips with), 2nd half attitude much better, quicker play all round. several good opportunities created and narrowly spurned.

Bad points - Shelvey, Silva, Sama for different reasons. General lack of composure in first half with poor selection of passes and a shocking miss for 2-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,267 ✭✭✭opr

Silva has to be one of the most frustrating players I have ever watched. Has great things going for him with his power, pace and trickery but he could be the single most selfish player I have ever watched.

Much better second half. For lots of our young lads that was the biggest game they will ever have played in and they seemed to suffer from stage fright in the first half. I expected much more from Shelvey but he really didn't look like he gave a toss tonight.

Looks like a fairly poor result, given the strong looking team we had out. They can only learn from experiences like tonight - good competition for them to be in, cannot see why some clubs did not want to be involved.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,855 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

While he was on the pitch, Robinson looked really good as well I thought. I was a little disappointed with Suso when he was on the ball, but playing deeper he didn't get on the ball enough really.

Spurs currently 6-1 up at home to inter. Half time and we are down to ten men.

We went six up before our hat trick scorer gave away a peno and got sent off pity Neither Carroll or Kane playing though who are the top two players out of there.

This tournament will give great experience to the young lads

In relation to tonights game so far, Toni Silva is his usual infuratingly good and bad in equal measure.

The lad from Belfast Ryan McLaughlin looks very decent, I wonder are the FAI preparing to swoop
