My wife has a degree in marketing and has 10 years good experience in a top Irish company up to 2007. She has vast experince of marketing/sponsorship/brand management etc etc. Anyway - she has'nt worked for about 4 years now due to having kids but is looking to get back into something in about 12 months time. We live in a rural town which has a small Insitute of Tecnology campus in it. There are evening business courses and she is interested in investigating the possibility of getting a position as an evening lecturer in marketing. Anyone know what type of experience/knowledge is generally required for these type of positions and how the recruitment process works?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

I too would be interested in this from a Business and Info Systems Point of view.

I read on a thread here that the majority of Universities advertise for part time lecturers and this is a good way to build experience

Are these advertised through the usual online channels (Monster etc) or on specialised sites?

There's a long thread in this forum where I detailed my experiences getting into lecturing.

Typically, for an Institute of Technology you need three years post-grad experience in your field. Obviously the more qualifications you have, the better.

The ITs typically advertise in the Irish Times and the Irish Independent. Also check the HR section of the institute's website. They do not tend to advertise with the likes of Monster or irishjobs.ie.

I have seen a number of adverts already this Summer for part-time lecturers, there are usually more ads towards the end of August/start of September when the colleges have a better idea of enrollment.
