    Hi All :)
I was hoping someone here could give me some advice,
I live in an estate and I'm looking to get some nice evergreen trees to plant in between our house and the neighbors, There is only a small 4 foot wall separating us at the moment so It's mainly for some privacy.
I would prefer something that grows reasonably quickly (2-5 years etc), has small enough roots (As they will be planted beside the dividing wall) and I don't want the neighbor complaining about cracks in the wall in a few years time, Something that grows reasonably high and doesn't need much maintenance bar trimming etc..
I know very very little about gardening so please keep the technical jargon for the more astute gardener :D;)
    Thanks in advance

The best fit IMO for your spec is the Cherry Laurel. Its more of a shrub than a tree, but grows fast, is evergreen and roots are ok.
It can get 6 ft wide, 8 ft high and smaller plants can be had quite cheaply - 4ft high for approx 10/15 euros.
Its quite a common plant and very low maintanence

Below link gives you a good idea of what it looks like

A more controlled option for you situation would probably be the bay laurel. It is slower growing than than cherry laurel, a darker green and can be used in cooking. They really make fantastic hedges and can be clipped tightly for small spaces. It will happilyreach 6-8 ft so as to block view from neighbours without enveloping the whole garden.

Another good option is the Portugese Laurel. Again more controlled growth than cherry laurel and a beautiful shiny leaf. Also has abundant white flowers in summer.
