    Unless you've been training for many, many years no martial art is the best way to defend yourself and your family. In fact it may well be the worst. It gives you an over inflated sense of your own skills, especially after a minimum amount of training, that a scumbag with a knife and 10 years of street brawling couldn't care less about.

    Good luck with the course though !!

    If you have no other choice, the ving tsun is the best thing you can do, but if you can escape escape!
