Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Teaching courses after the dip

    Hi all,

I qualified two years ago and was lucky enough to get work in the same school two years running. Unfortunately, like many part-time teachers, there were no hours for me for next year and I am looking for a new job again for this coming September.

A friend of mine showed me his CV recently, as I was updating mine. It seemed to detail a lot of training/courses he had done subsequent to his dip. I have nothing like this and the idea really took hold of me, as I love teaching and am interested in learning more about what I do. So, in the interests of building up my CV and developing my teaching skills I have decided that I would like to go back and do some kind of part-time course. To this end I am wondering if anyone could suggest some courses that are considered worthwhile, or are well-regarded? Is a Masters in Education the way to go? If so, does it matter what area it is in? This year I am too late to apply for a Masters but during my investigations into the matter I discovered the Online Certificate/Diploma in Inclusive/Special Education offered by St. Pats College, Drumcondra. Has anyone ever done this, or even heard of it? It looks perfect from the course description, as it is part-time, conducted on-line and can contribute to a Masters if you complete it successfully.

So I suppose to sum up I would be very interested to hear what courses people on this forum might have done or considered doing in addition to their dip, if you want to share! Was it worth your time and effort?

    Any input welcome :)

    Hi,

Re 'short courses' to add to your cv.......

Check out your local education centre who run several courses during the year some for subjects and others for general stuff.

Also see ncte for 'technology and learning' courses.

Also 'digital creator' course is useful to do and interesting.

    Thanks Trihead :)
I suppose ICT is something that principals are always happy to see on a CV!
I am going to look into that digital creator course. I tried to start a blog last year with notes etc for my leaving certs but it didn't get very far!

Does anyone have any Masters courses they would recommend, in any aspect of Education?

I did lots of short-term evening courses through my local education centre.

Here's a list of links. You'll definitely find something here!

I also did a summer course online last summer here: http://www.icepe.ie/

    Hi,
I am an enginner, working for basically no money in these bad times. I am very interested to go back and do primary school teaching! How would I go about this or what is the quickest possible way for me to get qualified?
If I am in the wrong thread could you please direct me to someone else,
    Thanks

You can either go back and do the full degree course in one of the colleges of education, or else you can apply to do the postgrad with any of those colleges or Hibernia (1 1/2 to 2 years duration). No other way.

VLE (blackboard or moodle) training would be very useful training.
