Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I turned up .... sat down to download images from Zombie Walk onto laptop and ..... WHAM !

Girlfriends mobile phone was stolen from her hands as we were sitting down on the grassy area (so we left and I didn't take a single pic)

I got a couple Pete but I'm still going through them, I'm also scared of the criticism haha. As a foundation for my attitude this time, I have done everything I can to use the critique I've received here in the past to make my photos better. I've listened and I hope it comes across a bit more with these. I know I have still have some way to go,but I ****ing love skating and urban sports in general so I want to be good at it and be able to represent it properly in my photos.

    Blog post is here: http://paulwilsonphotography.wordpress.com/2011/07/24/kings-of-concrete-dublin-city/

I was there both days but end of day one resulted in two (full) corrupted 8Gb cards which made up most of the days shooting, and day two saw one of my other 8Gb cards (again, full) lost/stolen. I don't know how or where on the site it happened, all I know for sure is that I took my bag off my back to change cards and it was gone from the pocket.
Not a lucky weekend for me...

To be fair, my own misfortunes aside, the event was brilliant and enjoyed every minute of it. I kept running into people I hadn't seen for ages and got a quality farmers tan out of it to boot.

A friend of mine went to take photos because he got some brilliant ones last year. He said the standard of performance wasn't as good as last years. He nearly had his lense smashed by one of the more incompetent performers.

Or maybe your friend was in the way like a lot of them were the year I was there :p What these guys are doing isn't easy, its even harder when they have photographers taking photos.

    Blasted Glute

    Those photos are pretty decent.

He only gets in the way with permission. One of his photos from last year was a skateboarder going over him as he was lying under a rail. He does take chances to get unique photos but treats it as a partnership with the performer. Maybe this year he chose the wrong guys to take photos of it. From what I can see on this thread, it looks good.

Thanks daz :) Have a couple more, and a redraft of that first one. I love it but there' something I can't change about it :( Can't wait for my next skating shoot!

I just posted my keeper image from the whole event there. I'll post the actual image here tomorrow in the size I want.
For now it's in the blog post over here: http://paulwilsonphotography.wordpress.com/2011/07/26/kings-of-concrete-my-keeper-image/

Yeah Blasted, they look pretty good. I was expecting a mass of weird skewed angles and way over processed images to chuckle about again this year.

You've deffo picked up on the advice people gave you on shooting this sort of thing. Events like this are always hared to get exactly what you want from them. too many people in the way, so much going on.

If your looking for that then head over to the kings of concrete page. There's some cool stuff but a lot of it is what you've described.

Three nights of overtime in a row at work has not left me much time to look back at my shots from the weekend. I need a few days off.

Haven't really got around to uploading them all. Only went because a friend mentioned we should head up, I'd a great day, wasn't expecting the sun and some sneaky beers made the day a real treat.

Disgusted I couldn't make it, unfortunately didn't have the cash to make it to Dublin. Who won the D700 after?

  • Registered Users Posts: 749 ✭✭✭BlastedGlute

I think it was a D5100 for the video guys. The camera competition was for a D7000 but I gather that it hasn't been voted on/announced yet.
